I’ve always been a leather pants lover! Well actually faux leather, but nonetheless I’m have always loved the leather look. From leggings to trousers, there are so many great leather pant styles available now. And while they can definitely be a worn in a trendy way, there is also a way to wear them with classic pieces. They can instantly elevate an outfit making it look chic and polished. And even if you don’t want to go for the full leather look, there are coated denim options that give a less obvious look of leather. I have rounded up a ton of my past looks to show you different ways to wear this style and what to wear with leather pants.
What To Wear With Leather Pants
Dressing Up Leather Pants

One of the easiest ways to style leather pants is by dressing them up with a fabulous top and glam accessories. I personally love mixing textures so wearing a lace top with leather pants creates a look that is interesting but still monochromatic. The shine of the leather pants lends itself to pairing well with other shiny pieces. Don’t be afraid to combine different textures and finishes together in one look, especially with leather pants.
Styling Leather Joggers

Wrap | Turtleneck | Joggers | Shoes
It seems like leather and joggers wouldn’t go together but I actually love the look. The leather elevates the joggers and I like to style them in a dressier way rather than too casual. Choose something fitted on top like a turtleneck and then drape a wrap or cardigan over. I like this look best with heels as I feel they do a better job of dressing the joggers up and creating a more flattering silhoutte.
Leather Pants + Statement Sleeve Sweater

With a more straight leg faux leather trousers style, a statement sweater with a slight puff sleeve works really well. It balances out the fullness of the leg and creates some volume on top.
Fitted Leather Pants + Oversized Sweater/Shacket

Shacket (similar) | Turtleneck | Jeans | Shoes | Bag (similar)
If you are going to go with a more fitted style leather pant, leather legging or coated denim, choose an oversized style on top. Either a grandpa style cardigan, tunic sweater or oversized shacket looks great. I also prefer that the sweater or shacket come past my butt just a tad with a super fitted leather pant/legging style. My favorite faux leather leggings that look like real leather are the Commando leggings. I have an entire blog post reviewing Commando vs Spanx faux leather leggings if you want more information.
Classic Styling of Leather Pants

Though leather pants can be thought of as trendy, there is a way to create a more classic look with them. Opt for simple or polished pieces such as a tweed cardigan or simple cashmere sweater. This will make an edgier pair of leather pants look super chic and expensive.
Styling Leather Pants Casually
I have seen leather pants styled with sneakers and definitely think it can be done, but I like dressing them down with loafers much more. Or even ballet flats would be great. A cute graphic sweatshirt or casual sweater like what I am wearing above is great for making leather pants suitable for a more casual occasion.
Styling Leather Pants With a Faux Shearling Vest

Styling faux leather pants with a big faux shearling vest is one of my favorite looks each fall and winter. The fuzzy texture of the vest looks great combined with the shiny finish of the pants.

Obviously leather pants in the workplace are only appropriate if your dress code is a bit more business casual or fashion forward, but here are a few ways I would style them for the office. I worked in offices during my corporate years that would allow looks like these and I loved styling leather pants in a more professional way. My first go-to was always to wear a button down blouse with leather pants. It felt classic and was easy to style with a variety of accessories. I also love the idea of a heavier weight top as I am wearing with the slight flare kick leather pants. It’s not quite a sweater but heavier than a regular t-shirt or top.
