I’ve been a fan of wide-leg pants especially wide leg jeans for more than a decade. I’ve experimented with very denim styles over the years but have always kept a few pairs of wide leg jeans to style from time to time. Now they have become a wardrobe staple and the denim shape that I reach for the most. I prefer a mix between a wide leg and straight leg jean so they aren’t too voluminous but not too slim. And I have various lengths that I love from cropped to ones that go straight to the floor. Wide leg jeans have made a huge comeback recently and I think they are a style that you can invest in without worrying that they are too trendy. Wide leg pants and wide leg trousers are always a classic wardrobe piece especially for those in the workplace so the silhouette has always been around and will continue to on trend for decades to come. Wide leg jeans are more versatile than you may think and look good with just about any top or blouse you choose to style with them. Different tops will create different looks for a variety of occasions so you can dress wide leg jeans up or down depending on what you pair with it. In this blog post, I will be sharing a round-up of tops to wear with wide-leg pants and wide-leg jeans.
What Tops To Wear With Wide-Leg Pants
Cute Tops To Wear With Wide Leg Pants
Tuckernuck Blue Striped Presley Boyfriend Tee
A simple striped tee always looks good with wide leg pants or jeans. This one is a bit looser and not as fitted which will balance out the volume of the pants perfectly.
Tuckernuck Romantic Floral Camden Blouse
Especially in the spring and summer, I love a boho flowy floral blouse worn with wide-leg jeans. It has a 70’s vibe to it while still looking modern.
Anthropologie Tobie Pleated Blouse
Any top that darts in at the waist looks especially nice with wide leg jeans because it creates an hourglass silhouette.
Tuckernuck Sandstone Pique Sleeveless Polo
This is a slightly more feminine take on a traditional polo shirt and I would love it styled with cropped white jeans or pants.
Tuckernuck Black Striped Racer Back Tank
A fitted striped tank is essential in my closet and looks great styled with almost any type of wide leg pant you could find. Linen, denim, crepe – it’s an easy piece that will always work with your wide leg styles.
J.Crew Hyacinth Top in Cotton Poplin
Another top that gathers at the waist and creates a great silhouette. The gathering at the waist will look even more exaggerated when paired with wide leg pants versus a slimmer pants style.
Dressy Tops to Wear With Wide-Leg Pants
Mango Satin Blouse with Draped Neck
Immediately when I saw this blouse, I envisioned it worn with white or black crepe trousers for a work dinner or more conservative evening function. So chic and timeless and the draping of both the top and pants will create an effortless look.
Aritzia Posh Tube Top
While this is technically a tube top, I think of it as an elevated strapless top perfect for evening. The longer length will work with floor length trousers and you can add some interest with a statement necklace or earrings.
Anthropologie Mock-Neck Batwing Top
This is a more modest top that still has the same chic draping as the first blouse. And I love all the bold silver accessories that they styled on the model – that is exactly how I would wear it!
SNDYS Emiliana Top
I am so happy that fitted vests are still on trend because they have become my preferred sleeveless top style with wide-leg pants. I can wear a regular bra with them which is key for me and they look a bit fancier than a regular button up blouse.
Reformation Melanie Top
This top is so unique and I would love to see it styled with wide leg jeans for a bit of contrast. You could also wear this under a blazer with wide leg trousers for a more professional evening setting.
Anthropologie Tobie Pleated Blouse Double Buckle Edition
This is the exact same blouse as the one in the first collage but the buckle detail makes it a bit dressier. Perfect for a night out with friends and wide leg trousers would balance out the proportions perfectly.
How To Style Wide Leg Pants With Different Tops
Cropped Sweater and Wide Leg Jeans
Sweater (code: alittlebitetc) | Jeans | Shoes (code: MAREE15) | Bag (code: MAREE15) | Sunglasses | Belt
Most of my wide leg jeans and pants are high waisted and wearing a cropped sweater with them really shows off the full look of the jeans. As someone with a long torso, cropped sweaters and shirts are also one of my favorite styles to wear because I don’t have to worry about tucking anything in. LOL
Billowy Blouse with Wide Leg Jeans
Blouse (code: MAREE10) | Jeans | Shoes | Belt | Bag (similar) | Sunglasses | Necklace
A simple billowy blouse will always look so great with wide leg jeans. Once again a bit of a 70’s vibe but still modern and chic.
Long Cardigan and Wide Leg Pants
Cardigan (code: MAREE10) | Belt (code: MAREE15) | Jeans | Boots (similar) | Bag (similar) | Sunglasses
I love the lengthening effect of wide leg pants especially as someone with short legs. And when styling them with a long tunic style cardigan, it continues with the line of the pants creating one long line. This particular cardigan was a bit oversized so I added a belt to give it more of a fitted shape which pairs well with jeans.
Puff Sleeve Cardigan with Wide Leg Jeans
Cardigan (code: MAREE15) | Jeans (similar) | Shoes | Bag (similar) | Sunglasses | Belt (code: MAREE20) | Necklace
This look is an example of balancing out two voluminous styles in one outfit. Since there is a distance from the sleeve to the jeans, it doesn’t look too bulky overall and creates a balanced look.
Blazer with Wide Leg Pants
Blazer | Tee | Jeans | Belt | Shoes | Bag | Sunglasses | Necklace (code: MAREE20)
A simple classic blazer looks good with almost anything you style with it but I especially enjoy it worn with a wide leg pant or jean. Try to keep the cut of the blazer slim or more classic rather than oversized which makes this outfit more timeless than trendy.
Button Down Blouse with Wide Leg Pants
Shirt | Jeans | Shoes | Bag (code: MAREE15) | Sunglasses
The same way you would wear your button down blouse with your wide leg trousers, it also works with wide leg jeans. I personally like to roll up my sleeves to 3/4 length or 1/2 length because it makes the outfit look styled. Simple edits like this can make all the difference with your outfits.
Cap Sleeve Tee with Wide Leg Jeans
Tee | Jeans | Belt (code: MAREE20) | Sandals | Bag (similar) | Sunglasses
Much like the puff sleeve cardigan I shared a few photos back, pairing something that has more emphasis on the shoulders with wide leg pants is a great way to balance out a look. There is volume at both the top and bottom of the outfit.
Cropped Trench with Wide Leg Pants
Trench (similar) | Tee | Pants | Belt (code: MAREE20) | Sandals | Bag (code: MAREE15) | Sunglasses
As someone on the shorter side (I’m 5’4″), I love this take on a traditional trench coat. The cropped version actually makes me look taller and is an easy item to wear with wide leg black trousers. I also love how trench coats look styled with striped tees and this one has a slight pop of color while still remaining neutral overall.
Lady Jacket with Wide Leg Pants
Lady Jacket (similar) | Pants | Sandals | Bag (similar) | Sunglasses
If you work in an office, a classic wide leg pants outfit you can always go back to is trousers with a lady jacket or cardigan. It’s a nice alternative to a traditional blazer and you can play around with different colorways and patterns with the jacket.
