Fall is officially here and I am patiently waiting for it to get cool enough to wear all my favorite pieces. Some things I rewear year after year because they are a fall staple and some are newer purchases that I plan to make wardrobe classics. I thought I would share the items I am most excited to wear this season if you are looking to add some new items to your fall closet.
The Clothing and Shoes I’m Excited To Wear This Fall
Leather pants (similar) and tweed slingbacks
I bought these faux leather pants a few years ago and they are consistently one of my favorite items to wear each fall and winter. They add a unique bit of texture to an outfit and are a great alternative to denim or simple wool trousers. I have dressed them up and down and find them to be more versatile than I first thought. Leather pants as a whole are a classic look that never go out of style so if you are thinking about adding a pair to your wardrobe, opt for a straight leg or trouser fit. This is a fit that will stand the test of time and always look modern and chic.
Speaking of adding texture into my fall and winter outfits, these tweed slingbacks from Amazon are absolutely gorgeous. They come in a variety of colorways but I was drawn to this black/white print and they add just enough variety to a simple outfit. And since the tweed texture is so subtle, you can easily mix this with other prints in your outfit.
Short sleeve sweater
Fall is my favorite in between season that allows me to wear all the fashion items that may not make a ton of sense. Short sleeve sweaters being one of them. I love this style especially when it is still warm outside but not warm enough to be in a t-shirt or tank. Short sleeve sweaters fit the bill perfectly.
Oversized Amazon striped sweater
For context, there is a very popular designer version of this sweater by the brand Toteme. It’s absolutely stunning and probably something I would wear often but I didn’t want to spend the exorbitant amount of money that they charge for it. So when I found this similar sweater on Amazon, I ordered it immediately. When it arrived and I styled it, I fell in love with the entire look. The length is long but not too long and it’s perfectly oversized.
Slip skirt (similar)
I wear this slip skirt all year round but I especially love styling it in the fall and winter. The longer length makes it great for the colder temps and it looks so gorgeous when worn with different sweater textures. Slip skirts look great dressed up or down and it’s one of the pieces that I recommend the most to anyone trying to build up a good fall wardrobe.
Chunky turtleneck
While it may seem like a simple chunky turtleneck sweater would be available anywhere and everywhere during the fall and winter season, there are often various details that don’t make them exactly what I want. I saw this turtleneck a few times while I was online browsing last fall and every time I stopped and looked at it for awhile. It seemed to be the perfect option. So I finally decided to get it after comparing a ton of different styles and I can confirm it is everything I wanted and more! The neck stays up, the fit is just oversized enough, the material is soft and cozy – it’s truly the perfect chunky turtleneck.
Suede knee high boots
I have a few suede knee high boots but these are hands down my absolute favorite. The fit is absolute perfection and they are a style that will never not be on trend. They are a bit of a splurge but I have to say that they are not a boot you will ever regret purchasing. I have worn them with skirts, shorts and jeans and they look beautiful with every piece. They come in a ton of colors and prints/textures but if you want something classic, I recommend the suede finish in either black or brown. You will have them and wear them for decades to come!
Wide leg trouser jeans
Wide leg and trouser style jeans are trending heavily this year and this pair from Spanx is an absolute 10/10. They pull on so there are no zippers or buttons and they have a slight compression aspect to them that many Spanx pieces do. I will say that they do run long even the petite option. I am wearing the petite version and have to wear a heel with them but they make my legs look a mile long.
Denim midi skirt (similar)
This is definitely a piece that people either love or hate but I continue to love the denim midi skirt trend. I bought two over the past year and wear them three seasons out of the year. For me it feels like a great alternative to wearing jeans while still being very easy to style. Anything I would wear with jeans, I would wear with a midi denim skirt. If the trend feels a bit daunting to you, keep it simple with a turtleneck and knee high boots for fall. It’s a classic silhouette that always looks modern.
Trench coat and suede mules
Fall is trench coat season so I am excited to pull out mine again. I prefer to leave mine open almost as a duster cardigan and tie the belt in the back to slightly cinch in the waist. Obviously if it gets too chilly, I will close the coat and belt it normally. But for the most part I love styling it this way.
I’ve probably shared these suede mules from Amazon more often than I can count but that is because they are truly one of my most worn pairs of shoes each fall! I don’t work in an office but these still look great worn in a casual way but obviously would be a perfect shoe for the workplace. They are nearly identical to the Manolo Blahnik suede mules that have been around for 10+ years but these are under $75. I find them to be super comfortable and the heel is just high enough but not too high to walk around in. They come in a ton of colors so if you want to experiment with a fun pop of color, you can do that with these and not have to spend a ton. These are a fall shoe must have!
Coatigan and faux leather leggings
I don’t know why it took me so many years to buy this viral Mango coatigan but it did. However once I got it, I kicked myself for not buying it sooner because it is hands down my most worn outerwear piece in fall. I throw it on nearly anytime I leave the house. It’s heavy enough to keep me warm but still not as heavy as a traditional coat. The roomy fit allows me to wear any chunky sweater or sweatshirt underneath and it never feels constricting. The length is perfect and is comes in a few neutral colors. I plan to get a second one this year in another color because I wear mine that much!
It would not be fall without my faux leather leggings. I honestly don’t care if they go out of style or stay on trend, I will forever wear them all season long. In fact, I got my first pair nearly 8 years ago and since then have purchased three more pairs because that is how often I wear them and rotate through the ones I have. I wear them more than a plain brushed cotton pair of black leggings because I like the added sheen to them and the fit is absolute perfection.
