It’s officially winter and everything on my body feels dry. My skin, my hair and especially my lips. I have products that help my lips stay hydrated all year long but I need to amplify the routine in the winter to avoid dry, cracked lips. You may have a line-up of dry skin products to help your face and body stay moisturized throughout the winter, but using products specifically for the lips is key. This blog post will be a guide on how to keep your lips hydrated effectively and the products I like to use to help with this.

I turned 46 a few months ago and have been slowly adjusting my makeup routine to accommodate my changing skin. From fine lines, to texture to being more dry overall, I’ve been on a hunt for products that suit mature skin types. Years ago, this was not an option since most beauty brands marketed primarily to a younger demographic. In the past few years, there has been a shift in the beauty industry (slow but it’s there!) to cater more to an older demographic. Some brands offer products that suit mature skin types but I was so excited to see an entire beauty brand dedicated to women over 40, Sarah Creal Beauty.

As someone who has loved makeup for nearly 20 years, the most important part of how my makeup looks is a direct result of how I take care of my skin. There is only so much that makeup can do in terms of helping achieve radiant or glowing skin – most of that has to come from your lifestyle and the products you use to maintain your skin. Everyone’s skin is different and so much can affect the skin but if you are wanting to achieve a natural glow to your face, there are some simple steps that you can take in order to help achieve this.

I used to get the worst seasonal depression during the cold winter months. I was miserable and felt unmotivated and sad until Spring. But over the past few years, I have completely reframed how I think about winter and the things I do during these months. And as a result, winter has now become my (second) favorite season of the entire year. I really leaned into slowing down and immersing myself in things that make me happy. November and December are the months of giving but I call January the “month of me”. I don’t focus on resolutions or a “fresh start” but rather allow myself to slow down and indulge in anything that brings me joy. I thought I would share the things I do that have really helped me enjoy this season in case you  may need some inspiration for yourself.

The older I get the less makeup I can wear because it can show too much texture and look unnatural on my aging skin. It’s more important than ever to find the right complexion products that will provide the performance I want while not working against my mature skin. When it comes to concealer especially, my options seem to be less and less because so many make my under eye area look worse as the day goes on. When I find one that really impresses me, I have to share it with all of you!

As someone who loves to wear a full face of makeup everyday but still prefers lightweight formulas, skin tints are my preferred everyday complexion products. Foundations often have too much coverage for my mature skin and can look too noticeable on the skin. Skin tints are lightweight liquid tints usually packed with skincare ingredients to help treat the skin while also offering light to medium coverage. They are a versatile addition to any beauty routine though not all skin tints are the same.
