I have been a fan of bermuda shorts for years and love that they are still so popular at the moment. I prefer a longer length short these days and find them to have a dressier look which allows for more versatile ways to wear them. They are much more comfortable than shorts at a mid-thigh or above mid-thigh length and I don’t have to worry as much when bending down or sitting. Many people may think of bermuda shorts as a dated style but that isn’t the case. You can wear bermuda shorts in a chic and modern way, so I will share multiple ways to style bermuda shorts and various bermuda shorts outfits if you want to add a pair to your summer wardrobe.

How To Style Bermuda Shorts

Even though bermuda shorts have been around for years, it can be a challenge figuring out exactly how to style them in a modern and fashion forward way. I typically look for a tailored bermuda shorts style but you could also apply the same principle to a longer pair of denim shorts that hits a bit higher above the knee. I’ll share some ways I have personally styled bermuda shorts as well as some additional looks at various price points to give you more options.

What Length Are Bermuda Shorts?

Typically Bermuda shorts are a knee length style of shorts in a linen material or a lightweight summer fabric. Years ago there was less of a tailored look to them and they appeared more like a pair of trousers cut off at the knee. Now the options are a bit more modern and often have a slim cut and a mid rise or high rise waist.

What Do Bermuda Shorts Look Like?

This first pair is a true bermuda short style that goes all the way to the knee made in a linen type fabric with subtle pleating. It’s a very elevated style of shorts which I love and find easy to dress up with classic pieces.

These are more of a tailored style short that hits a bit higher above the knee but I wanted to include it because it’s a great alternative to a bermuda short that goes all the way to the knee. This type of short is incredibly flattering and can be styled in much of the same way as a traditional bermuda short.

I included this pair of Agolde denim shorts because they are close enough to a bermuda short and are an additional option if you want to have something more casual in your closet. The idea behind how to style long jean shorts is much the same as how to style bermuda shorts.

Are Bermuda Shorts in Style?

Short answer, yes. They are incredibly popular right now and many brands have put out their version of them so there is definitely an option for everyone. Are they a bit on the trendier side? It depends on the style that you choose. If it’s a voluminous style that has a lower rise or comes below the knee, that is very trendy and wont’ look as timeless as a more tailored fit. Bermuda shorts are always going to be in style because they are a summer classic, but if you want to find a pair that will look modern year after year – opt for a tailored style short with a slim fit.

What to Wear with Bermuda Shorts?

V-Neck or crewneck tee

A simple tee is always a great option for wearing with a pair of shorts.

Button down linen blouse

I love an all linen outfit so a linen blouse will always work with a pair of linen bermuda shorts. And if you opt for a pair of crepe or tailored shorts, a linen blouse is still a must have piece to wear with them.

Lightweight blazer

Since bermuda shorts often resemble trousers in a shorter length, it makes sense that a summer blazer will look great styled with them.

Summer sweater

I know it sounds crazy to suggest a sweater for the warm weather, but a lightweight cashmere tee is a great closet staple to always have. And if you want to wear your shorts to the office for a business casual look, a cashmere tee is the perfect option for your summer wardrobe.

Casual Bermuda Shorts Look

Still neutral tones but a more casual look with flats instead of a heels. Since the shorts are longer, it’s good to balance out the extra length with a tank that shows a bit more skin. Add some statement earrings and statement flats to give the outfit some interest!
