I’ve been on a mission these past few years to discover as many smaller beauty and skincare brands as I can. There are so many amazing brands not sold at huge retailers and I want to highlight the ones I love and use. Dr. Whitney Bowe is a board certified dermatologist who became popular on social media because of her focus on skin cycling routines. Skin cycling is the idea of cycling through your skincare actives to maximize their results while not irritating the skin. Using certain products on certain nights rather than layering all of your active ingredients in every routine which can often result in damage to the skin barrier, irritation and less efficacy.
On one night she recommends using your exfoliation products, then the next night your retinol products. And then following that with a night of only using moisturizing products. I’ve been doing my own skin cycling schedule for nearly a decade so it is a concept that really works. Dr. Whitney Bowe recently launched her own line of skincare products, Dr. Whitney Bowe Beauty, that you can use to follow her exact skin cycling program. Obviously you can tweak it as you need but it’s nice to have a guide to follow if you are new to skincare. I have tried almost every single item from the line so today’s post will be my review on each product and if I think the brand is worth trying for yourself!
Here are more reviews on small skincare brands I love:
Dr. Whitney Bowe Skincare Reviews
The messaging and focus of Dr. Whitney Bowe’s skincare brand is providing expertly-crafted, clinically proven products that can be used in a strategic yet streamlined routine. Less is more is something that Dr. Bowe believes in when it comes to skincare. All of her products receive an independent clinical study at third-party labs to ensure their efficacy. On her website, she shares sample routines for different levels of skincare expertise so anyone can find a program that works for them. I personally love that she provides these routines because even if you don’t want to use her entire line, you can still use this guide with your own products to figure out a weekly routine for your skin.
What Are the Best Dr. Whitney Bowe Skincare Products
Bowe Glowe Cleanser
This is the most gorgeous creamy cleanser that makes me skin feel super nourished and hydrated after using. It gives a nice deep clean without stripping the skin. While you can use it to remove makeup, I prefer to use it as my second cleanser after all my makeup and sunscreen is off.
Tri-Liptide
There are TONS of lip balms on the market. But this one became an instant hit because of how much it helped my lips. It’s best used as a treatment rather than a makeup product so I apply it before bed each night. In addition to helping deeply nourish my lips, it targets 8 different signs of aging. Formulated with a biomimetic peptide and hyaluronic acid, the Tri-Liptide smooths texture, reduces fine lines, hydrates and helps the lips appear more full. It was initially designed to be used after in-office lip treatments to help expedite recovery which gives you an idea of how soothing it is! Truly a must try!
Exfoliation Night Resurfacing + Brightening
The Exfoliation Night Resurfacing Brightening serum delivers triple exfoliation without added irritation. This treatment is best used in the evening and contains a blend of AHA, BHA and PHA. If you struggle with dark spots and hyperpigmentation, this is a great addition into your evening routine. In addition to helping even out the skin tone, the Exfoliation Night serum will target fine lines, help smooth texture and reduce the appearance of large pores.
Retinal Night
I use a retinol product in my routine a few times a week and find it to be more important as I get older. The clinical proven Retinal Night Firming Treatment helps to stimulate cellular turnover which slows as we age. It firms, smooths and reduces the appearance of wrinkles. This particular formula uses retinaldehyde, a form of vitamin A that works faster than traditional retinol. Many retinol products can be irritating to the skin. So it’s best to start slow and work up to a few nights a week as your skin gets used to it. I find this treatment to be easy to tolerate and have had no sensitivity or flakiness from it!
Asta C
I use a vitamin c serum every morning because it helps to protect the skin from environmental aggressors. In addition to providing that antioxidant support for the skin, vitamin c is great at brightening and evening out the skin tone. The Asta C serum is formulated with two newer forms of vitamin C at a 15% potency as well as antioxidant astaxanthin which helps to stabilize the formula making it more potent and effective. If you are new to using vitamin c, start slow and see how your skin tolerates it before building up to using every morning. Asta C is amazing at brightening, fading discoloration, reducing fine lines and helping restore radiance. There is also a full ingredient list under each product on her website
Bowe Glowe Microbiome Nourishing Cream
I ADORE this rich moisturizer for my dry, mature skin. It can be used both morning and night so it’s the perfect final step in your routine. Formulated with squalane, sunflower seed oil, ceramides, prebiotics and postbiotics, this moisturizer helps to repair the skin barrier and my skin looks and feels moisturized, nourished and calm. It deeply hydrates and helps to balance the skin’s microbiome. This moisturizer is an absolute must have if you regularly use strong actives or retinol products.
P46 Peptide + HA Plumping Serum
This is Dr. Bowe’s newest product launch – the P46 Peptide + HA Plumping Serum. Peptides are the popular ingredient at the moment and for good reason. Peptides are fantastic at helping plump and firm the skin both immediately and long term. This 2-in-1 formulas combines the benefits of peptides with the intense hydration of hyaluronic acid. The P46 serum helps to deliver immediate hydration and long-term lifting/plumping.
Are the Dr. Whitney Bowe Products Worth It?
I have been so impressed by all the products I have tried from Dr. Whitney Bowe and definitely think the line is worth trying especially if you have mature skin. Her products are incredibly effective. But you don’t have to use her entire line to benefit from her skin cycling program. The two products that I feel are worth investing in first are the Exfoliation Night serum and the Retinal Night Serum. And the Bowe Glowe is a moisturizer that I absolutely love as my final step in my evening routine.
