I love to experiment with new beauty and skincare brands to discover new favorites and innovative formulations. There are so many amazing skincare brands that don’t have the funds or exposure like larger brands do but produce formulas that are some of the best I’ve ever tried. I did an entire blog post on amazing products from brands you may not have heard of. And today, I wanted to dedicate an entire post to my review of Experiment Beauty. Oddly enough, they did just launch in Sephora which is quite remarkable considering how small they are. But I am thrilled that so many more consumers will be exposed to their effective formulas.
Experiment Beauty was founded by two chemists looking to make unique formulas that are effective and affordable. Their products are multi-functional and focus on barrier repair first and foremost. They choose ingredients with proven results rather than using what is currently trending or popular. Innovation in the form of unexpected textures is also a cornerstone of the brand. Many of their products don’t feel like 90% of what is currently on the market. I was initially drawn to the brand because I had heard so many great things about the products.
I want the products to work but I LOVE a unique product that pushes the limits of normal skincare. The texture of their products has become my favorite part of the brand. And I am constantly looking to see what new launches they are putting out. There has not yet been a product I’ve tried from Experiment Beauty that wasn’t an immediate hit and future repurchase. Here is my review on everything I have tried from the brand so hopefully it can help you decide what products you may want to try in the future from Experiment Beauty.
Experiment Beauty Reviews
Experiment Beauty Plasma Wash
As someone who LOVES a unique texture especially when it comes to cleansers, the Experiment Plasma Face Wash is favorite of mine. It’s technically a gel cream but has a jelly-like feel to it. The brand describes it as a “moisture depositing gel cream cleanser” which is a mouthful but does accurately describe this cleanser. It is chock full of super nourishing ingredients to really support those with various skin types.
This formula uses glycerin depositing compounds which deliver moisture to the skin that remains even after you rinse. It’s a low-foaming cleanser that doesn’t strip the skin and helps to restore the barrier. It doesn’t leave a film but it makes the skin feel intensely nourished and supple much like a serum or moisturizer would do. It’s quite a unique cleanser and one that is fantastic for all skin types. But definitely a must try if you have dry mature skin.
Experiment Beauty Super Saturated Serum
If your skin is feeling dehydrated or lacking moisture, this hydrating serum will solve ALL your problems. It is a barrier support serum that helps strengthen and protect the skin barrier while also delivering intense hydration. The serum is formulated with 30% glycerin as well as a ton of other humectants. So it will also aid in helping your skin hold onto that moisture all day long.
The texture is thick with a slight tacky feel to it which not everyone may enjoy though I personally LOVE it. With my dry mature skin, a slightly tacky and thick formulated serum is my preference because of how effective I find them to be. The Super Saturated Serum is one of the best hydrating serums I’ve tried in a LONG time. In addition to intense hydration, other ingredients in this formula such as prickly pear extract and niacinamide help to calm and soothe the skin. This is a thicker serum so layer it accordingly in your skincare routine (thinnest to thickest). But it will truly help increase your skin’s hydration immediately as well as for the long term.

Experiment Beauty Molecular Mesh
This is one of my all time favorite barrier strengthening moisturizer. I focus a lot on supporting the skin barrier because a balanced and strong skin barrier is one of the keys to healthy skin. A healthy skin barrier looks plump, balanced, fresh and always feels comfortable (not tight and irritated). If your barrier is damaged, none of your skincare products will deliver their intended results because your skin barrier isn’t functioning optimally. Using a rich or nourishing moisturizer is good. But it’s better to choose one that is designed and formulated to support the skin barrier.
The Molecular Mesh moisturizer is a rich yet breathable moisturizer suitable for all skin types. It uses ingredients such as ectoin, centella lipsomes and glycerin to protect the skin against environmental aggressors. As with most of Experiment Beauty’s products, the texture of this is incredibly unique. It’s a semi-rich formula that feels nourishing. But it does have a bit of a tacky/bouncy feel to it initially. The tacky texture doesn’t last and this moisturizer absorbs beautifully into the skin after only a few minutes. My skin feels plump, calm and instantly nourished.
Experiment Beauty Softwear Smoothing Lip Treatment
Nearly every single brand has a lip treatment there are only a handful that I reach for because they actually work to keep my lips soft, hydrated and smooth. Oddly some lip balms make my lips drier. And I get stuck in a cycle of reapplying but never getting soft lips. (Feels scammy if you ask me, but I digress…..) As soon you first apply the Softwear Lip Treatment, the thick texture coats the lips instantly. This is a formula I use at night or when my lips are feeling super dry because I prefer not to layer anything over top. Some lip balms work well over my favorite lipsticks or lip liners but I like this as an intensive treatment rather than a makeup product.
The reason why this occlusive lip balm works so well for me is because it delivers instant hydration with squalane and glycerin, but also provides a gentle chemical exfoliation. This added benefit removes all the dead skin and roughness on my lips while cocooning it in a thick barrier supporting formula.
