If there is one skincare ingredient that is a MUST have in my routine, it is hyaluronic acid. I’ve been using it in some form for nearly 10+ years and apply it almost every single day often twice a day. Hyaluronic acid helps increase the moisture content in your skin which can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is found naturally in the skin as well but tends to deplete as we age. It can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water within the skin. Adding in a hyaluronic acid serum into your skincare routine is great for helping treat anti-aging concerns and keep your skin looking plump.
I have heard so many great things about The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 Hydrating Serum and thought I would test it out to see if it compares to some of my other favorite hyaluronic acid serums. The Ordinary is known for their effective skincare products at a VERY affordable price point. I’ve tried other Ordinary products over the years and have always been impressed by how great their products perform. I’m going to break down what The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2 B5 serum does as well as my honest review of what it did for my skin in today’s post.
The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2 B5 Review
I’ve had countless readers suggest The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 serum to me and tell me how fantastic it is so I was so excited to finally test it for myself. I typically use a hyaluronic acid serum in both my morning and evening routines as I find that it helps keep my skin plump and well hydrated. I had really high hopes for this serum and it did not disappoint!
Texture
The texture of The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2 B5 hydrating serum is exactly what I love in my hyaluronic acid serums – slightly thick and viscous. It initially can feel a tad sticky but it quickly dries down and absorbs instantly into the skin. My skin feels firm, hydrated and supple afterwards.
Price Point
The price point is one of the best things about this serum because it is under $10!!! It’s a product that is super accessible to most budgets.
Ingredients
There is combination of low, medium and high molecular weight hyaluronic acid which really helps to deliver intense hydration. Vitamin B5 has also been added to the formula which enhances hydration even further. This is a very pure form of hyaluronic acid which is why it is so effective at plumping and hydrating the skin.
Formulated for all skin types
Every skin type and age can benefit from adding hyaluronic acid into their skincare routine. It’s an ingredient that pairs well with other active ingredients and rarely irritates the skin (though patch testing is always recommended when trying something new). Dehydrated skin can occur at any age due to a variety of factors so adding in a hyaluronic acid serum can help to combat this.
Benefits
From a strictly visual standpoint, hyaluronic acid helps to plump the skin both immediately and over time. It helps retain moisture, reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and make the skin appear more firm and supple. Hyaluronic acid has also been proven to help heal the skin and help it recover faster from any scars, cuts or abrasions.
Vegan and cruelty-free
The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2 B5 serum is formulated to be vegan and cruelty-free.
The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2 + B5 Before and After
Both immediately and over time, my skin looks so much more plump when using The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5. It looks supple, fine lines are minimized and my skin is so much less dehydrated throughout the day. This helps my makeup look better and last longer too!
How to Apply The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2 + B5
Use Twice Daily
I use the serum twice daily as I find it really helps my skin stay looking plump and radiant when used both in my morning and evening skincare routine.
Apply Before Moisturizer
You should typically apply your skincare products from thinnest to thickest, so serums will always go before moisturizers and face oils.
Apply to Damp Skin
It’s not a necessity but I like to apply my hyaluronic acid serums to damp skin instead of dry skin. I will often just spray a face mist right before I apply the serum so that it traps the moisture on my skin.
Layer with Other Serums
Hyaluronic acid works really well with most other active ingredients (I love it with my Skinceuticals Vitamin C serum) so I like to use it with whatever treatment or serum I’m using that day/night. I will often use it first before other serums but that can change based on exactly what I am using that day. Either way, using it before or after other serums will not diminish its efficacy.
