Wearing sunscreen used to be such an awful experience especially on your face and under makeup. Sunscreen used to feel slimy, greasy and no makeup ever wore nicely on top of it. Then brands began to improve the sunscreen formulations and they felt more like a nourishing serum. After the texture and feel of sunscreens improved, brands began to put out tinted sunscreens and skin tints with SPF in them. It was a great blend of two things that many women wore every day – makeup and sunscreen. Depending on the product, the SPF in some skin tints and complexion products is not enough to protect your skin every day and a separate dedicated SPF still needs to be worn underneath. But there are some products that manage to provide great sun protection AND decent complexion coverage in one product. The RMS Beauty SunCoverup Super Tint SPF 50 is the perfect example of this. If I plan to be out at the beach or park all day long, I may need something stronger but for day to day wear, the RMS Beauty Super Tint is perfection! The RMS Beauty Supernatural Radiance Serum SPF 30 is already my holy grail glowy primer that I wear underneath my makeup (seriously, it is a game changer for mature skin!), so I was so thrilled that the SunCoverup Super Tint impressed me just as much. If you are in need of a new tinted sunscreen or skin tint for the upcoming warmer weather, this is a great one to try. And I have an RMS beauty discount code that works on the entire site. What is RMS Beauty SunCoverup Super Tint?
The RMS Beauty SunCoverup Super Tint is a silicone-free tinted moisturizer designed to even out the complexion while also providing sun and blue light protection. If I had to place it in one category, I would put it in the complexion category versus the sunscreen category even with the high level SPF. You can definitely wear this alone as your daily sun protection but if you plan to be outside for the entire day, be sure you layer a dedicated sunscreen underneath this and remember to reapply your SPF every two hours.
Price Point
RMS Beauty is positioned as a mid-range luxury brand so the price point does reflect this. It is $49 for 1 fl oz. (My discount code: Maree-15 will get you 15% off!)
Packaging
I like that this is a pump dispenser which makes it easy to use and control how much product you use each time.
Shade Range
There are currently 13 shades in the range designed to be somewhat flexible in terms of adapting to your skin tone. As with most brands, there is a sufficient number of medium shades but few in the fair and deep dark spectrum which I hope they will improve upon in the future.
Coverage
Though this is positioned as a skin tint, the SunCoverup gives really great coverage. I only have to use a tiny amount to cover nearly my entire face. The pigment in this is strong so it will cover most imperfections in one application. The directions say to apply liberally but I would recommend being light-handed with it though and build it up where you need it.
Texture
The SunCoverup is a liquid formulation but not super watery or thin. It feels more like a traditional liquid foundation in texture.
Finish
This tint has a very glowy and dewy finish and stays that way nearly the entire day. It doesn’t get shinier as the day goes on, but it doesn’t set to a natural finish – it stays very glowy overall. As someone with slightly dry and mature skin, I enjoy the dewy finish but if you want something more natural, this is not it. It gives that fresh “just had a facial” dewy skin which I personally love. LOL
Longevity
I only saw a tiny bit of separation after hour 8 but I made sure to use a pressed powder in my t-zone to set it the following day and the separation didn’t happen.
Ingredients
This is a skincare/makeup hybrid product that helps even out the complexion while providing sun protection and helping keep the skin hydrated all day. It contains vegetable squalane to help hydrate, a proprietary herbal blend to balance the skin and their trademarked GlowPlex which is a blend of niacinamide and peptides that boost radiance, smooth and firm the skin.
Skin Types
I definitely don’t think this would be suitable for all skin types because of it’s incredibly glowy and dewy finish. Those with dry or mature skin types would love this but I think it would be too shiny for anyone with oily or combination skin.
Is RMS Beauty SunCoverup Super Tint Broad Spectrum SPF 50 Sunscreen Worth It?
If you are someone who wants your makeup and sunscreen to be in one product, this is a great option. It gives amazing buildable coverage, lasts all day long and provides mineral SPF 50 broad spectrum protection. I use it both as a makeup product (wearing another sunscreen underneath) and sometimes as my daily sunscreen that also provides coverage. The price point is high but I love how well the product performs and looks on my skin so I definitely think it is worth it.
How to Apply the SunCoverup Super Tint Broad Spectrum SPF 50 Sunscreen?
Prep the Skin
Though this skin tint is very creamy and nourishing, it works best when you skin is moisturized and prepped. I will often add a layer of the Rhode Glazing Milk right before I apply my foundations because it gives my skin a quick boost of moisture that allows complexion products to glide on effortlessly.
Start Small
Because this is such a buildable skin tint, I recommend using a light hand to apply. You can always build it up if needed or add more to certain parts of the face.
Use a Damp Sponge for Less Coverage
If you want less coverage, use a damp makeup sponge to apply the product all over.
Use a Makeup Brush for More Coverage
If you want to build up coverage, choose a stiff kabuki style brush to buff in the product.
Set With Powder If Needed
Though this skin tint is very long wearing, you can still set it with a setting powder and help extend the wear even more. Especially if your skin is more oily or combination, use a setting powder through your t-zone to help mattify and set.
RMS Beauty SunCoverup Super Tint Swatches
I currently have both Alabaster and Ivory and there is quite a jump in color between the two shades. Alabaster is quite light so I have been wearing it during the winter but sometimes will mix it with Ivory if I want a slightly deeper shade. Ivory still works for me but I have to be wearing self tanner all over because it’s too dark for my natural skin tone. There are currently 13 shades available in the range:
- Alabaster – light porcelain for fair skin
- Ivory – ivory with a slight golden base
- Cameo – light medium almond
- Buff – cool buff beige
- Sand – warm beige
- Tan – warm peachy tan
- Honey – medium warm honey
- Tawny – rich earthy tan
- Caramel – tanned amber for olive skin tones
- Spice – golden olive
- Toffee – chestnut
- Mahogany – rich chocolate
- Mocha – rich espresso
