Laura Mercier is known for her caviar eye shadow sticks which continue to be a top seller and now there are lipsticks and lip liners included in the range. There is the Caviar Smoothing Matte Refillable lipsticks and the Caviar Perfecting Lip Liner. Both are designed to be long wearing with a wide range of shades that could create a variety of looks. I love the idea that more brands are moving towards refillable products. The lipstick packaging of the new Caviar Smoothing Matte Lipsticks are heavy and feel very luxe. It definitely makes sense that you will be able to keep that gorgeous packaging and replace it with a new lipstick bullet when you need it. I have all of the shades in both the matte lipsticks and the lip liners to share in today’s post.

Laura Mercier Caviar Smoothing Matte LipstickOn the whole, I am not a huge matte lip fan but one of the exceptions to this is the Laura Mercier Petal Soft Lipstick Crayon. That has stayed a favorite for me since I first tried the formula so I had high hopes for this new matte lipstick launch. Thankfully the texture was very reminiscent of those petal soft crayons but with a bit more pigment and longevity. There are so many shades in the collection that range from very nude to bold and vibrant.

Price Point

Let’s talk first about price because it is steep. The lipsticks are $45 each and the refill is $29. I do think that is a bit high but I guess in the long run, you are only buying the refill for $29 which seems much more in line with what I would feel comfortable spending for these. Packaging

The very substantial and heavy packaging definitely contributes to the higher price point. There is a magnetic closure which I love and it feels very weighty in your hand.

Shade Range

It’s been a long time since I have seen a VERY nude lipstick and this launch has two of them! Most of the other shades are what we can expect from the brand and there is definitely something for everyone. Easy to wear daytime shades and very bold shades for evening. But if you have been looking for that “concealer” type shade in a lipstick, I definitely think you will be happy.

Formula

While it is a matte formulation, it does not feel dry or uncomfortable. It actually feels very smooth and creamy. It’s designed to be a hydrating long wearing matte lipstick and I definitely think it kept my lips more hydrated than most other matte lipsticks.

Longevity

It is supposed to be long wearing for up to 16 hours though I confess that I didn’t wear it that long. It did last nearly all day on my lips with only minimal touch ups needed after eating. It’s not transfer-proof but definitely will last most of the day.

Pigment

These are a one swipe full coverage lipstick with intense color payoff.

Finish

While these do give a matte finish to the lips, I would describe it closer to a demi-matte with a bit of blurring. It doesn’t emphasize fine lines or texture which I appreciate.

A few ones to take note of if you are looking for some suggestions. Nude Sateen and Chantilly Lace are VERY nude – concealer-like nude and I haven’t seen that in a long time so I think these will be quite popular for those looking for this specific type of color. Scarlet Velvet and Flame Challis are richly vibrant red shades that offer a blue undertone and an orange undertone. Rosewood Silk and Pink Chiffon are the most everyday shades that I think will be popular and give just enough color without being too bold. Laura Mercier Caviar Perfecting Lip LinersI’ve never been a die hard lip liner user but as I have gotten older, I realize the need for it to help define my lip line (which seems to be rapidly disappearing #rude) These harken back to the old school lip liners that I remember from years ago. A true pencil that is stiff and delivers intense pigment. However the biggest difference from those ones from years past and these is that these don’t skip on the lips and apply easily.

Price Point

Formula

These are a drier formula in my opinion and feel quite stiff as you apply them. However, they don’t skip or drag so it is very easy to apply.

Shade Range

I think there is a nice range of shades in this launch though I wish they would add one or two more cool toned neutral lip liners to complete the collection.

Longevity

These are very long wearing as they claim to be so they pair well with the lipsticks and would also work with lip glosses and lip oil formulas.

Finish

This is definitely a matte finish lip liner but has the same slight blurring property to it that the lipsticks do.

Packaging

These are an old school pencil lip liner that you sharpen as it slows wears down.

Delicate Nude is the perfect shade to tone down the red or pink in your lips. Red Velvet and Precious Plum are vibrant reds that also look great worn alone.
