I have a been a fan of wide leg denim and pants for years and years. Even through the years that I wore mostly skinny jeans, I still always had a pair of wide leg in my closet. Though they are not always trending, I have found that the style can be timeless and look so polished and refined. Whether you choose a super voluminous pair of wide leg jeans or a slightly less wide leg fit, they are a style that can look good on all body types and can be worn a variety of ways. As someone that is only 5’4″ and has a very short inseam, I often gravitate towards cropped wide leg jeans so I don’t have to worry about hemming. And I do prefer a high rise fit so that it continues to create a lengthening effect to the entire look.
I personally love a wide leg denim because they can elongate the leg and can be so comfortable to wear. They may seem like an intimidating style of denim to wear so I am going to share a few outfit ideas and styling tips for wide leg jeans and how versatile they can be.
How to Style Wide Leg Jeans
Styling Wide Leg Jeans with a Wrap Top

There are so many great tops to wear with wide leg jeans, but I love a deep-v wrap top or bodysuit because the eye naturally follows the v-neck style down. And the lengthening effect that wide leg jeans can give, it can create a long and flattering silhouette. One of my favorite pairs of wide leg jeans is the Paige Anessa Cropped Jeans (shown above) because they are a subtle wide leg that balances out nicely with the wrap/v-neck style of the bodysuit. In addition to a v-neck wrap top, a button down shirt would also give the same effect since the first few buttons are often undone creating that flattering v-neck look. To continue the lengthening effect of wide leg jeans, opt for a clear or nude shoe.
Styling Wide Leg Jeans with a Cropped Jacket or Cardigan

If you have a more business casual workplace, dark washes of wide leg jeans like the ones I’ve shown above are a great polished option. They are similar to a denim trouser and look great worn with a short jacket, blazer or cardigan.
Styling Wide Leg Jeans with a Cropped Tee

I love playing off the proportions of a pair of wide leg jeans and styling it with a cropped tee. The lengthening effect of the jeans looks great with something cropped and add a clear or neutral shoe to complete the look. For a weekend look, throw on a cute pair of sneakers.
Styling a Classic Look with Wide Leg Jeans

When I referred to wide leg jeans as a classic and timeless style, these are the kinds of look that I was imagining. A simple long sleeved tee and a pair of pointed toe boots or comfy pair of ballet flats is so easy to repeat over and over throughout the season by just changing up your outerwear and handbag. It can look completely different each time and provide a variety of looks with relatively few pieces.
Styling Wide Leg Jeans in the Winter

I love wearing wide leg jeans in the winter because they look great worn with a statement coat or something a bit more voluminous such as this faux fur coat in the above pic. Volume on the top balances out the volume on the bottom and creates a cohesive look.
Styling Distressed Wide Leg Jeans

As I do with most of my distressed jeans, I love to wear them with something more polished and refined to balance out the look. The same goes with my distressed wide leg jeans – styling them with a classic crewneck sweater and mules is a nice way to elevate the distressed detail. Add a statement belt and tote for an even more refined look.
Styling Wide Leg Jeans with a Blazer

A blazer and jeans is one of the most classic outfits ever to exist. Many people may think of opting for a slim straight or boot cut style to wear with a blazer since it seems a tad more conservative and professional. However, I love the added volume that wide leg jeans add to the outfit. And it gives the same silhouette as a wide leg trouser. Especially if you work in a business casual environment, I definitely think trying a wide leg style of denim is a great choice to wear with all your classic blazers.
Styling Wide Leg Jeans with a Trench

Wide leg jeans often have a lengthening effect on the body and really elongate your silhouette. This type of look pairs really well with the dramatic length of a traditional trench coat. I would personally choose a non cropped pair of jeans to wear with a mid length trench coat so you continue that seamless line of sight which makes the outfit look so cohesive.
Styling Wide Legs Jeans with Button Down Shirts

Wide leg jeans have the same type of fit as a pair of wide leg trousers which makes them the perfect item to style with button down shirts. It doesn’t matter if it’s a white button down or something with a print (even a pop of color). I apply the same concept to styling a button down shirt with wide leg jeans as I do a traditional blazer. You can really create a chic professional look or even something classic and relaxed for the weekend.
Styling Wide Leg Jeans with Sandals

This may be my favorite type of shoe to wear with wide leg jeans because I love the look of a dainty strappy heel paired with a voluminous wide leg denim. They play off each other so well and it really balances out the proportions nicely. Any sandal that is too chunky or one with thicker straps may look better with a slimmer style of denim or full length wide leg jeans that cover the top of the foot .
