I am LOVING the vest trend that has been happening over the past year. And it is especially great now that it’s summer because it is like wearing a tank top that allows for a regular bra! Yay! Most tank tops have very thin straps that require a strapless bra and I try to avoid that when I can. So when I started wearing vests, it was the best of both worlds. Vests can be a bit confusing to style because we automatically think of them as a professional item found under a blazer or button down shirt. I have been styling my vests in a variety of ways both casually and dressed up. They are so much more versatile than you may think and are so flattering. Here’s a few styling ideas for vests that are easy to replicate.
How to Style a Vest
Vest with Shorts

I love the look of a vest worn with longer dressy shorts. It creates a suit-like look but one that is still super chic and comfortable. Add some delicate strappy sandals to complete the look.
Vest with a Blazer
Blazer | Vest | Jeans | Belt | Sandals | Bag (similar) | Sunglasses
An obvious combination is to wear a vest under a blazer but I decided to dress it down with jeans instead of trousers. If you have a business casual office, this look would be perfect.
Vest with Linen Pants
Vest | Pants | Shoes | Bag | Sunglasses
If you don’t love the look of a traditional vest, opt for a sleeveless cardigan sweater which gives a similar vibe. I left the bottom two buttons undone on this particular one and love that it shows the slightest bit of skin without being too overt. Mixing textures by adding linen pants creates a well styled and balanced look.
Vest with Wide Leg Jeans
Vest | Jeans | Belt | Sandals | Bag (similar) | Sunglasses
Wide leg jeans are like trousers in my mind so I know they will automatically look great with a vest. The key for adding a bit of femininity to the look is opting for a strappy delicate sandal. And tons of accessories and jewelry can add more interest to the entire outfit.
Vest with a Slip Skirt
Vest | Skirt | Bag | Sandals | Sunglasses
If you want to dress up a vest for the evening, I love how it looks with a silky slip skirt. It’s a fresh and modern take on a simple skirt and tank combination. I’m normally someone who loves neutral bags and shoes but this bright lime bag added the perfect amount of color.
Vest with Trousers
Vest | Bag (code: MAREE15) | Pants | Necklaces here (code: MAREE30) and here (code: ALITTLEBITETC)
A forever combo that always looks chic. This is a very menswear inspired look so add some statement jewelry and strappy sandals to balance out the outfit.
Black Vest with White Jeans
Vest | Jeans | Belt | Sandals | Bag (similar) | Sunglasses
My first inclination when I put on anything black is to style it with something white. It’s crisp and classic and always looks well put together. This vest has a peplum like fit and flares out right at the waistline which I love. I styled it with wide leg white jeans and black accessories for a look that is perfect for daytime or evening.
