The Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation is one that I am constantly asked about but have not tried for nearly 10 years. I tried it at one point but found it too glowy for my then oily/combination skin so I decided to give it another go now that my skin is more mature and a lot drier than it once was. It is consistently a favorite amongst makeup artists and regular consumers because of it’s amazing formulation and gorgeous finish it leaves on the skin. After testing it out again for the second time, I thought I would share my honest review of the Giorgio Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation and whether I think it is worth it.
Giorgio Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation Review
As I mentioned before, the Giorgio Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation is the ONE foundation that I get the most questions about. Have I tried it? Do I love it? Is it worth it? My skin has drastically changed over the past few years and I feel like it is more suited to the Luminous Silk Foundation now more than before. I was definitely right because after testing it for the past few weeks, I am in love with it!
What Is the Giorgio Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation?
The Luminous Silk Foundation is an oil-free medium coverage glowy finish foundation. It’s designed to blur imperfections while providing a medium coverage long-lasting luminous finish to the skin.
Shade Range
There is an extensive shade range option for the foundation for the most part but I do think there could be further development at the fair and deep ends of the spectrum. The shade range categories are broken up into fair, light, medium, tan and deep with various undertones to choose from. Price Point
Since this is Giorgio Armani beauty which is a luxury brand, the price point is high. It’s $69 for the standard size of 1oz but they also offer a .6oz travel size for $48. Not a huge savings but if you don’t go through foundation that much, you may want to opt for the travel size.
Longevity
This claims to be a long wearing foundation and it is! It stays put all day for me without needing to set it with powder.
Coverage
I find this to give the perfect amount of coverage without being too heavy! It’s medium coverage with the ability to build it up just a bit though you will not be able to get full coverage out of this formula. However, I like to apply a small amount and sheer out the coverage to give me a beautiful skin like finish.
Finish
It gives a beautiful slightly luminous finish that looks more like healthy skin. It’s creamy and smooth without looking too cakey or heavy.
Skin Type
I do feel that those with normal to dry or mature skin types will really love this foundation. It’s creamy and gives a subtle glow to the skin without being too shiny. It is oil-free so those with oily skin or combination skin may need a mattifying primer underneath or a setting powder for the t-zone but it is definitely still a great option.
Is Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation Worth It?
I absolutely get the hype and feel it is so warranted after testing the Luminous Silk Foundation again. It looks absolutely beautiful on the skin, doesn’t emphasize fine lines and leaves my skin looking healthy and fresh. It is a pricey foundation but I do feel you will not be disappointed if you splurge on this with how well it performs, how long it lasts and how beautiful it makes the skin look.

If you don’t trust an online shade matching tool, your final option is to go in store to Sephora or any department store that carries Giorgio Armani Beauty and get a makeup artist to shade match you in person.
How to Apply Armani Luminous Silk Foundation
Prep the skin
Though this foundation is very creamy and nourishing, it works best when you skin is moisturized and prepped. I will often add a layer of the Rhode Glazing Milk right before I apply my foundations because it gives my skin a quick boost of moisture that allows my foundations to glide on effortlessly.
Start small
Because this is a medium coverage foundation, I recommend using a light hand to apply the foundation. You can always build it up if needed but it’s always best to start with lighter coverage at first.
Apply with a foundation brush
I like to apply it with a foundation brush and spread evenly all over the face. Working it in to create a seamless look.
Dab with a damp makeup sponge
This last step isn’t necessary but I find that dabbing a damp makeup sponge over the foundation helps sheer it out a bit and really melt the foundation together.
Giorgio Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation Swatches
There are 40 shades in the range and cover a wide variety of skin tones. I personally wear shade 1.5 and find that it is a good match for me. However, I definitely think a few more shades could be added on the pale and deep ends of the spectrum. The foundation is heavy on medium tone shades so if you fall in that category, you will have no problem finding a color that works for you.
