Denim skirts began trending early last year and it took me a bit to get into it but after seeing so many great styles I finally decided to give it a try. Denim skirts have always been a wardrobe classic but denim midi and maxi styles are particularly having a moment right now. And each season better options have come out and I am loving how versatile they are. It’s easy to style with so many different pieces in your closet because it’s denim first off. Everything goes with denim. Denim jeans, denim jacket, denim skirt – they are all closet staples. They can look great with classic pieces as well as trendy items so there is something for everyone.
I am sharing a round-up of denim skirt outfits that you can add to your wardrobe rotations or use as inspiration to style with pieces from your own closet. Lets start with two ways I’ve styled my own denim midi skirt both for summer and then for fall/winter.
10 Denim Skirt Outfit Ideas

Denim Midi Skirt + White Tank
This look is a simple go-to for me in the summer and has the same idea as wearing jeans with a white top. Effortless, classic and always in style. I personally love the denim midi skirts with a slit up the front as it makes them a bit more flattering and gives some shape to the skirt. I styled it with neutral accessories and some gold jewelry to finish off the look.
Turtleneck | Skirt | Boots | Bag | Sunglasses
Denim Midi Skirt + Black Turtleneck
I bought this denim skirt in the early summer and wore it a ton but wasn’t sure how to transition it to the colder months. I decided to opt for a simple black turtleneck and black knee high boots and LOVED the whole look. The front slit of the skirt is perfect for wearing with knee high boots because it allows the boots to show with only a bit of skin left. I personally would stick with knee high boots over ankle boots with a midi skirt because the length of the midi skirt can cut off the legs in a weird spot in relation to the height of the ankle boot. It creates a sleeker line with a knee high boot.

Denim Pencil Skirt Outfit Ideas
With a midi skirt style, I definitely feel like you can create a more professional look with it versus a denim mini skirt. If you work in a business casual or casual office, a denim midi skirt is a great alternative to wearing jeans. You still get the denim vibe but a bit more elevated because it’s a skirt. To give the outfit some movement and make it more flattering, choose a style with a slit up the front and pair it with knee high boots for fall/winter. A tweed jacket and a silky camisole will give the entire outfit great texture or keep it super sleek and chic with a turtleneck bodysuit and statement belt.
Striped Sweater | Bag | Mules | Maxi Skirt | Cardigan | Bag | Ballet Flats
Denim Maxi Skirt Outfit Ideas
Along with denim midi skirts trending right now, denim maxi skirts are everywhere as well. This one can be tricky especially if you are on the shorter side but finding a long denim skirt style that is slim and fitted is key. And my preference for styling denim maxi skirts is to show a bit of ankle still to break up the length of the skirt. I have seen some maxi skirts styled with boots but it’s a very trendy look and isn’t as versatile in my opinion. I love the idea of wearing some embellished ballet flats or mules with a denim maxi skirt.
Throw on a slightly oversized sweater to balance out the slim fit of the maxi skirt or if you do go for a fitted top (or even a crop top in summer) like this v-neck cardigan, try a pair of flats instead of heels. It gives a slightly more relaxed finish to the look that is overall quite fitted and slim.
Bodysuit | Purse | Flats | Mini Skirt | Sweatshirt | Tote Bag | Sneakers
Denim Mini Skirt Outfit Ideas
Denim mini skirts have been around since I was a kid and will always be a classic style. However, I definitely feel like keeping the entire outfit casual choosing either flats or sneakers with a mini skirt is the best option. Choose a simple tee or long sleeve bodysuit and then add on some flair with a metallic bag and embellished flats. For a truly dressed down comfy vibe, go for a white sneaker and oversized hoodie.

Colored Denim Skirt Outfit Ideas
If you are loving the denim skirt trend and want to take it up a notch, I love the idea of a colored denim midi skirt as an alternative to standard blue. A neutral tone like this camel color is a great option but still so versatile to style. You can create an entire look of different brown tones or go for a classic brown/black combo which always looks great. Bomber jackets are everywhere right now and have a slightly blousy oversized fit which would look great with the slim cut of the denim midi skirt.
If you are looking to try this trend or add a denim skirt to your closet and want to get the most use out of it, choose a simple denim fitted midi skirt. That will be the most timeless out of all the options I’ve shared and something that you can wear for years to come.
