There is so many great things about traveling but one of the downsides is the actual logistics of the entire operation. LOL Packing can be a bit exciting, heading to the airport can be a bit anticipatory but once you arrive at the airport all the way until you reach your destination can really be a headache. That is why it is important to dress as comfortably as possible. But dressing comfortably does not have to mean you have to sacrifice being stylish or put together. My parents used to fully dress up to travel but that isn’t always an option if you have a long haul flight and have to sit in an outfit that is constricting or uncomfortable.
I personally have made it my mission over the past few years to consistently find looks that put comfort first but still manage to look super chic and polished. Here is a round-up of outfits that you can comfortably wear to the airport and while traveling.
What To Wear To the Airport
Obviously the first thing to consider when deciding what to wear to the airport is the weather. The weather where you are leaving from and the weather where you are headed to. Since you are inside most of the time it’s best to dress in layers that you can easily put on and take off as well as comfortable footwear. You need shoes that you can slip on and off without issue so that is one less thing you have to worry about going through security.
Even in the summer, it’s best to choose long pants and bring a jacket or wrap with you in case the plane is cold (which it ALWAYS is LOL). If it is winter, try layering tights and fitted thermal tops underneath your outfit to avoid having to wear your big coat on the plane. You could carry it or put it in the overhead bin but it may be cumbersome to sit in your seat bundled up in your big coat. Here are some outfit ideas for the next time you plan to travel!

Matching Sets

If I have one matching lounge set, I have a million. And the reason is because it makes getting dressed so easy. I can be insanely comfortable AND look put together. When you are traveling, you want to cut down on any inconveniences and having to decide what to wear on the plane should not be one of them. There are a ton of options available now at all price points too. Matching sets work well no matter the season. If it is summer, wear a tank underneath so you can remove the pullover once you get outside. If it is winter, layer some thermals underneath if needed.
Joggers and a Sweater

Sweater | Joggers | Sneakers | Bag | Sunglasses
This combination is very close to a matching set but gives you a bit more leeway to play around with different pieces. Choosing pieces in the same color family is the best way to look put together. Or go with a classic pair of black joggers and a fun pop of color in your sweater choice. While some joggers can look sloppy, I try to choose those with a slim fit to give the outfit a more tailored look. I still get to be comfortable but still look put together. You could choose a sweatshirt to wear with this but I am loving a woven casual knit as an alternative.
Wide Leg Pants and a Lightweight Sweater

Not everyone will want to wear joggers or sweatpants on their flight so another great option is wide leg pants. That could be trousers, flowy pants or even wide leg denim. A roomy wide leg helps keep you comfortable and can easily be dressed up if you need to get off the plane and immediately go somewhere. Wide leg trousers especially have become my go to for most days because they can be dressed up or down but don’t have the same stiffness that denim does.
Black Leggings and an Oversized Sweater

Pullover | Leggings | Sneakers | Belt Bag | Sunglasses
This is a long time classic – an oversized sweater/sweatshirt and black leggings. For me this is probably my last choice because it feels almost too casual for me and a bit too athletic but there are a few ways to elevate a black leggings outfit. Opt for a pair of faux leather leggings instead of a traditional pair of workout leggings. Add an outerwear piece over your sweatshirt to elevate the look a bit. Either a long coatigan which can be incredibly comfy but still looks polished. I also love the idea of a quilted lightweight coat over a neutral hoodie.
I’m not a fan of ankle or crew socks so I will always go with a no-show sock, but you could always add a sock if that is your style. A final way to elevate a simple black leggings outfit is to either do your hair or makeup, but not necessarily both if you don’t want. You can also choose a simple sneaker rather than an athletic style sneaker to dress up the look a bit. I did an entire blog post on the best white sneakers to wear with dresses and any of these would actually be a great choice.
