As someone who has been a neutral, barely there, nude lip lover for most of my life, fall lip colors weren’t a huge thing for me. I would wear a red from time to time or maybe a deeper berry gloss, but I didn’t love how traditional fall lip colors looked on me. It’s funny though because as I have aged and am now in my mid-40’s, I find that nude or very neutral lip colors can make me look washed out. My face comes alive with a bit more color so I was excited to try out some bolder and richer tones for this fall.
I still prefer shades that are a bit more sheer and wearable for everyday, but I managed to find a handful of colors that I am loving for fall as someone with very fair skin. Many of these colors would also look good on a variety of skin tones, but if you are hesitant to wear fall lip colors because you have paler skin then hopefully you find something new to try in this group.
10+ Best Fall Lip Colors for Fair Skin
Hourglass Phantom Volumizing Glossy Balm in Lure
The Hourglass Glossy Balms are richly pigmented but feel very comfortable with no stickiness or tackiness. The color range is stunning and the plumping effect is minimal so there is no discomfort. It’s hard to even pick a favorite shade at this point because I love and wear almost every color. A creamy and hydrating formula that glides effortlessly on your lips. They stay quite glossy and smooth on the lips and don’t bleed or feather. Lure in particular is a very dark shade in the tube but when on the lips give the most effortless berry color that is perfect for fall.
elf O Face Satin Lipstick in Dirty Talk
Out of all my lip picks, this is the most traditional type of lipstick and formula. It’s a creamy satin texture that gives medium to full(ish) coverage but still feels so smooth and comfortable on my lips. This is a one swipe lipstick and it lasts the longest out of all the options I have in this post. The shade I love in this is Dirty Talk – it’s a gorgeous beige pink. However when layered with the vibrant Hourglass Glossy Balm in Thrill, it creates a richer and deeper peach color that looks much more fall-like.
Hourglass Phantom Volumizing Glossy Balm in Thrill
The Hourglass Glossy Balms are richly pigmented but feel very comfortable with no stickiness or tackiness. The color range is stunning and the plumping effect is minimal so there is no discomfort. It’s hard to even pick a favorite shade at this point because I love and wear almost every color. A creamy and hydrating formula that glides effortlessly on your lips. They stay quite glossy and smooth on the lips and don’t bleed or feather. Thrill is a really bright red but when worn with the elf lipstick, it’s much less bold and more wearable for everyday. The combination is so great for fall.
Tatcha Kissu Lip Tint in Midnight Lily and Camellia
The Tatcha Kissu Lip Tints SPF 25 are a creamy, hydrating lip tint with SPF 25 and buildable color. The pigment is so much more rich than I imagined and really give amazing color payoff on the lips. They feel super smooth and moisturizing and hardly at all like a traditional sun product for the lips. There are three shades in the range – Camellia, Midnight Lily and Plum Blossom. Midnight Lily gives a sheer wash of deep berry to the lips without being too dark. Camellia is a bit more pink but still rich in tone so it works really well for fall.
Hourglass Unlocked Soft Matte Lipstick in Lush
The Unlocked Soft Matte Lipsticks are a full coverage primer-infused formula that is meant to last all day and has a soft matte finish. I am not someone that normally loves matte lipsticks but these are absolutely heavenly! They are incredibly creamy on the lips and don’t feel drying at all. The application is smooth and full coverage with just one swipe. I tested them and they lasted about 8 hours without needing a touchup. Lush is a really intense and vibrant red orange when worn alone. I really love it but layering it with a rich espresso brown tint tones down the boldness and makes it a true fall red shade that works for daytime or evening.
Rhode Peptide Lip Tint in Espresso and Raspberry Jelly
After falling in love with the Peptide Lip Treatment, I had to order the Peptide Lip Tints to see how they compared. It’s a sheer but slightly buildable lip color that helps to nourish and hydrate the lips. The formula is nearly identical to the Peptide Lip Treatment and makes the lips look glossy and glass-like. They are so comfortable and easy to wear throughout the day and last longer than I anticipated. Usually I don’t have to reapply until around hour 3 or 4 (which I think is pretty decent for a lip balm). At first I wasn’t in love with the two deeper shades, Espresso and Raspberry Jelly, until fall came. Ha! And now I am obsessed with wearing Raspberry Jelly alone for the best sheer berry tint and Espresso layered over brighter reds and pinks.
Finding Ferdinand Delicious Balm in Photoshoot Black Cherry (code: MAREE-10)
I wanted to leave the lip balm in the photo so you can see the stark difference between the shade in the packaging and how it looks on the lips. This is a nourishing tinted lip balm that gives just a hint of color. There are a few options to choose from in this formula but if you want a perfect fall lip, Black Cherry is the color to get.
Naturium Phyto-Glow Lip Balm in Ruby
The Naturium Phyto-Glow Lip Balms are a nourishing lip balm designed to nourish the lips and leave them feeling silky, smooth and moisturized. With they can definitely be used as a treatment, Naturium launched a ton of colors that I love wearing during the day as my primary lip color. They give pigment while still keeping my lips moisturized and smooth. From the packaging to the formula, I love using these regularly and constantly recommend them to those looking for a tinted lip balm option. These aren’t necessarily very sheer nor are they intensely pigmented, they fall somewhere in between in my opinion. The bolder and brighter shades definitely give a nice punch of color without being too intense. Ruby is part of the limited edition Moody collection and is the most stunning sheer ruby red that looks great for day or night.
Saie Glossybounce High-Shine Hydrating Lip Gloss Oil in Remix
I am not sure why I have not yet tried one of these Saie lip gloss oils but after falling in love with the shade Remix, I will definitely be purchasing more colors. This does feel a bit more like a gloss than an oil but has a bit of slip to it which makes it feel quite nourishing and moisturizing. I always go straight for the pinky nudes and sheer peaches when trying out a new lip formula, but this time I wanted something that was a bit bolder and gave me more color. Remix is one of shimmer glosses and was an instant love from first swipe. It’s a mauve shimmer that is the most perfect deep rose shade which is a great fall option for those that want something a bit lighter than a berry or plum shade.
