Fall Barn JacketsOutfit details: Jacket | Sweater (discount code: MAREE10) | Jeans | Belt | Shoes | Bag | Sunglasses | Necklace

If there is one jacket to buy this fall season, it is definitely a barn jacket. They are EVERYWHERE and there are so many different price points, colorways and styles to choose from. Barn jackets are a style that have been around for yearssss and go by various names such as chore jacket, utility jacket, etc. I’m sure they are an actual style that people wear when working outside but of course the fashion industry has to revamp it a bit and make them stylish for those of us who don’t even have a backyard garden.

LOL In fact, my first Barbour jacket that I ever purchased was when I was living in NYC and working in the beauty industry. That jacket never saw a speck of dirt in the nearly 10 years I owned it but I did love how durable it was. And I loved styling it with dressier pieces in contrast. The barn jacket I ordered this year has a cinchable waist which was an immediate yes from me. As you can see from the above outfit pic, I plan to be dressing my barn jacket up as much as I plan to wear it with rain boots and a baseball hat. It’s definitely a trendy piece at the moment but all the barn jacket options I chose for this post have a more classic look to them making them great to wear for years to come.

Barn Jackets At All Price Points

Best Barn Jackets

Banana Republic Barn Coat

While most barn jackets are in neutral tones like green, brown or black, I love some of the other color options I’ve been seeing lately. All are still fall appropriate but are a great change if you typically gravitate towards brighter shades.

Barbour Sage Beadnell Wax Jacket

Barbour wax jackets are the ultimate “barn jacket” or “utility jacket” and still a great option. They are a true chore jacket that can withstand wear and tear nicely and the jacket only gets better looking the more worn-in it becomes. Both my husband and I have owned a few Barbour jackets and while we wore them living in NYC which is so far from doing actual farm chores LOL, they held up impeccably for 10+ years.

Joe’s Jeans The Chore Jacket

A no muss, no fuss chore jacket for anyone that wants a simple understated style. But I will say the leather detail on the cuff of the sleeve elevates this a bit more so it’s a piece you could dress up or down.

Boden Canvas Barn Jacket

Leave it to Boden to add details to a barn jacket that make it so much more interesting! The plaid accents on the pockets and interior give it a ton of character and allow it to be styled easily in a more fashion forward way.

COS Suede-Collar Field Jacket

I know a boxier fit to jackets and coats is very on trend at theĀ  moment but I still love a cinched waist. It’s the millenial/gen-x in me that wants to belt or cinch all my oversized clothing items. I saw this field jacket and naturally was drawn to it because it has that cinching detail which I adore.

Alex Mill Chiltern Street Jacket

This is a true fall red and I am obsessed with it. It’s not too vibrant but has a more worn-in look to it but would still be easy to style with most neutral tones in your closet.

Mango Oversized Barn Jacket

Mango usually has the best take on trendy pieces because there is always a sophisticated flair with all of their styles. Classic with a bit of a twist. The latch closures on this jacket are probably my favorite out of every option in this list – it’s a chic detail on a rather utilitarian clothing item.

J.Crew Broken-In Barn Jacket

I love a vibrant red-orange and think it is a bold piece to wear in contrast to all the traditional muted fall tones. It’s a great complement to neutral shades but definitely a piece that doesn’t only have to be worn in fall. It could transition easily into spring and early summer with it’s rich vibrant shade.

Anthropologie Houndstooth Quilted Barn Jacket

This is probably the most non-barn barn jacket out of this entire group. So if the idea of a barn jacket intrigues you but all of these feel too casual, the houndstooth print on this gives it a blazer-like look which would be easy to style with both a business casual outfit and off-duty casual outfit.

Old Navy Canvas Barn Jacket

If you want to add a barn jacket to your fall wardrobe but are not sure it’s worth a large investment, this canvas barn jacket from Old Navy is the one to buy. It’s not too trendy and can be a piece that you can wear year after year.

LE BOP Dree Mid-Length Barn Jacket

Barn jackets definitely have a masculine vibe to them so for those who may have a more feminine style preference, this soft dull pink is the perfect option. I am not someone who typically gravitates towards anything pink, but I would wear this non-stop. The pink is softly washed out making it more subdued and great for fall/winter looks.
