Ever since we bought a Vitamix, Stan and I have gone smoothie crazy. LOL We had wanted one for a long time and Stan finally saw it on sale at Costco. I wasn’t sure it would be worth the steep price tag (though on sale at Costco made it super affordable), but it really is a blending wonder. My issue with smoothies however is that they can be chock full of tons of great things, but also chock full of calories. I suppose as a meal supplement that would be ok, but I drink mine as an addition to a meal or a snack mid morning so I wanted to make one that tasted good, had good ingredients but also was low in calories. So after playing around with a few different ingredients, I really love this smoothie recipe. It’s a bit on the sweet side so it would even be a great dessert option! I am still working on a more “green” smoothie that I like so I will keep you posted. Here are the ingredients to my chocolate/peanut butter/banana smoothie (that’s under 200 calories!):
- 1/2 cup of unsweetened almond milk
- 1/2 frozen banana
- 1 tablespoon of PB2 powder (this is powdered peanut butter which is a great alternative to regular peanut butter, it has much less calories and fat)
- 1/3-1/2 scoop of chocolate protein powder (I normally don’t do a full half scoop because it can overpower the taste so I measure somewhere in between 1/3 and 1/2 scoop)
- 1/2 scoop of vital proteins
- pinch of cinnamon
- handful of ice (add more or less based on what you prefer)
- sprinkle of chia seeds
That’s it! Obviously you can increase any of the quantities to your taste preference, but I have been loving this combo. I asked many of you on my insta-stories what your favorite smoothie ingredients were and here are some additional options for smoothies that you guys sent in:
- almond butter
- dates
- bone broth protein
- frozen berries
- carob chips
- macadamia nut milk
- acai puree packet from Trader Joe’s
- kale/spinach
- bee pollen
- royal jelly
- honey
- Trader Joe’s green plant juice
- pineapple
- mango
- greek yogurt
- apple juice
If you have any others that you love that I didn’t list or specific combos that are your favorite, leave me a comment below!
