The holiday season is here and Christmas parties are filling up everyone’s calendars. It can be so much fun to look forward to because you can celebrate with people you really love but deciding what to wear can be stressful. LOL How fancy do you dress? How casual do you dress? You want to be comfortable but also look festive and embrace the “extra-ness” of the season. Here’s a round-up of some casual Christmas party outfits that you can wear to your next festive get together!
What To Wear to a Casual Christmas Party
Casual can mean a bunch of different things to many people but I personally like to err on the side of being a tad overdressed than underdressed. Choosing pieces that are more polished can allow me to embrace the festive spirit without sacrificing my comfort. For me that usually means wearing flats instead of heels but not going so casual that I am wearing sneakers. Maybe a dressy cardigan with jeans or a pretty blouse with trousers can still have the overall look of casual without being too dressed down.
What Does a Casual Dress Code Mean
A casual dress code to me means that it’s not cocktail or black-tie attire but still requires being polished and put together. Jeans would be acceptable though choose a style that isn’t distressed and preferably a darker wash. Heels may not be necessary but skip the sneakers in favor of chic ballet flats. And an easy way to elevate a casual look is by adding fun accessories such as a great statement earring or beautiful belt.
How to Dress For a Casual Christmas Party

Festive Cozy Sweater
There is only one time of the year to wear festive slogan sweaters so if you have one, be sure to wear it as much as possible. Style it with some denim or black velvet pants and metallic flats.
Fair Isle Sweater
If a cutesy sweater isn’t your vibe, a gorgeous black/white fair isle sweater would be a chic alternative. Also great to pair with black velvet pants and the same metallic flats. Shop more fair isle finds here.
Velvet Pants
Though velvet pants aren’t something you will wear all year long, a classic straight leg pair will be timeless year after year.
Metallic Flats
Metallics are neutrals so these flats are definitely perfect to wear after the holiday season but definitely a way to make a casual outfit a bit more festive.
Black Beaded Clutch
Accessories are the easiest way to make a regular outfit more holiday appropriate without spending a ton. I love this beaded pouch clutch to wear with the sweaters/velvet pants or style it with the cable knit sweater dress to add some sparkle.
Leopard Print Coat
Because the holidays are a great time to be extra in your outfit choices, a leopard coat is the perfect outerwear piece to wear to a casual Christmas party.
Red Cable Knit Sweater Dress
I have tons of red in my closet because it’s one of my favorite colors to wear so I always rely heavily on it during the holiday season. Pair it with some cute ankle boots and the leopard coat!
Black Ankle Boots
Black suede ankle boots will be your holiday shoe MVP, trust me! Every festive outfit dressy or not will usually work with simple suede black booties.
Neutral Striped Cardigan
Even though it’s the holidays, you don’t to go overboard in choosing a festive look for a casual get together. Cozy textures are always a great option and then you can continue to wear it after the holidays are over.
Silky Slip Skirt
A silky slip skirt is one of the hardest working items in my closet. Ha! And during the holidays, it’s so easy to throw one on with a cozy sweater and boots. Mixing different textures together is one of the best ways to really step up your style so don’t be afraid to pair this skirt and striped cardigan with the fuzzy faux fur pouch as your accessory.
Neutral Knee High Boots
A pair of neutral suede knee high boots is a closet staple but would pair perfectly with the slip skirt or even the cable knit sweater dress!
Faux Fur Pouch
Don’t be afraid to branch out and have fun with your accessories during the holidays. This fuzzy fur pouch style clutch is so on trend right now and a great price point.
