Rhode Pocket Blush ReviewThis has been the summer of the blush launches. There have been quite a few new blush formulas and blush products that have launched but the Rhode Pocket Blushes were one of the most buzzed about. I have loved almost everything I have tried from Rhode Skin so I ordered a few shades to try. The Pocket Blushes are designed to be an on-the-go cream blush formula that gives a diffused bit of color with a satin finish to the skin.

Cream blush formulas are so much better than they were years ago and work for a variety of skin types. It used to be that only dry skin types could use cream blushes but now there are formulas that work for oily skin, combination skin and dry skin. I especially like cream blushes because they often look much more natural on the skin. I was excited to try the Rhode Pocket Blushes and will share in this post if they lived up to the hype.

Rhode Pocket Blush Review

Rhode Pocket Blush shadesThe Rhode Pocket Blush is a cream blush formula designed to give a diffused wash of color with a satin finish. They are portable so you can take them with you and touch up on the go if you want. They are a lightweight formula that melts into the skin easily without leaving a tacky or greasy feel. The three shades I purchased were Piggy, Freckle and Juicebox. I didn’t see one negative review of these and was really excited to try them. While I did LOVE the formula and colors, I had a bit of a learning curve when figuring out how best to apply them which I will share in this review.

Packaging

Meh. The packaging is ok but nothing special. It’s designed to be a portable product so they are quite small but the packaging is bulky in my opinion compared to the actual size of the product. Obviously this isn’t something that stopped me from purchasing, but I don’t think the packaging is anything special.

Price Point

Most Rhode skin products are priced well – falling in the mid range category. Not too luxe but a step above drugstore pricing. These blushes are $24 for .18 0z. They are richly pigmented so I definitely think they could last awhile even with such little product in the tube.

Pigment

These blushes are richly pigmented and easily blend into the skin. For me personally, I find it best to apply them with a brush instead of swiping them directly onto my skin. I can control the intensity this way and they blend easier for me. My skin is more normal to dry so I think that could account for the fact that swiping it directly onto my skin made it harder to blend.

Longevity

Even though these are very creamy and emollient, they do in fact last nearly all day.

Shade Range

There is a range of neutral shades and bright shades in the line though I have seen some reviews of them on dark skin and they do not show up that well. While they are pigmented, when swatched on deep skin tones they often disappear or look ashy. I thought I would mention this because the richness of the colors can seem deceiving and while I do love them, I think the brand could work on the formula a bit more to ensure they are accessible to all skin tones.

Finish

They initially seem very creamy and hydrating which led me to believe they would look more dewy on the skin, but the dry down is closer to a satin skin-like finish.

Swatches of Rhode Pocket Blushes

Rhode Pocket Blush swatchesI ordered three shades to try: Juice box, Freckle and Piggy. The swatches I have above were done with only one swipe if that gives up an indication of how evenly they apply. I’m wearing Juice box in the above picture and the color is absolutely stunning. Slightly blurring and gives a soft satin finish to the cheek. Here is a list of all the shades and a short description of each:

I have tried and worn all three shades that I purchased and love each of them. They all look absolutely stunning on the skin. And even in the heat and humidity, they manage to stay put on the cheeks. I do hope they continue to expand on the shade range and offer colors that work on any and every skin tone. The formula is really beautiful and I definitely think they are worth trying if you have been curious!
