I love all lip products from lipsticks, to lip oils, glosses and lacquers. But the one lip product that I’ve never used consistently are lip liners. It felt like an unnecessary extra step most of the time……until I reached my mid-40’s. My lip line has slowly been disappearing it seems like so I have been using lip liners nearly every day to give some definition and dimension to my lips. I have enjoyed different formulas and brands but nothing ever really stood out to me as my favorite. That was until I tried the Rhode Peptide Lip Shape Contouring Lip Liner. These are VERY different from other lip liners that I’ve tried in the best possible way. The Rhode Peptide Lip Shape Liners are a thicker liner designed to offer a blurred liner look – almost like you are contouring the lips.
This style of lip liner has been popular in Korean beauty for years and is finally making its way over to the US. I hate a super defined sharp lip liner because I find them harder to work with when applying. I can never get a smooth line that looks natural and always end up going outside my lip line at some point making the end result sort of jagged and uneven. This is not an issue when using the Rhode Lip Shape because it’s already a larger stick that is made to be slightly smudged and blurred. I am absolutely obsessed with them and have purchased four shades so far because they have become a staple in my daily makeup routine.

I wanted to do this post because I think these are so different from the traditional lip liner shape that many may overlook them. What Is Rhode Peptide Lip Shape?
The Rhode Peptide Lip Shape liners are designed to be a soft-focus blurring formula that enhances the lip shape while also delivering skincare benefits. They are meant to give the lips definition and dimension without any harsh lines. It gives the lips a more contoured appearance. And enhances the shape of the lip in a soft and subtle way.
Rhode Peptide Lip Shape Ingredients
- Peptides: The star ingredient that is also in the name of the product, peptides are added to this formula to help boost hydration and soften the lips for a smoother appearance
- Fenugreek extract: The other key ingredient in the formula which is derived from fenugreek sprouts and helps to visibly enhance lip volume and give them a firmer appearance.

Pros of Rhode Peptide Lip Shape
Shade Range
Starting first with the shade range of the Rhode Peptide Lip Shape Liners, these are the kind of shades I’ve been searching for. So many lip liner colors turn orange on me while I simply want something to look like my lips but better. I found that shade in “Lift” though I regularly use of the shades I purchased.
Long Wearing Formula
These liners have the perfect amount of longevity to last for hours without being too difficult to remove.
Larger Shape
Trust me when I tell you that you will end up LOVING the larger shape of these lip liners! You don’t have to worry about being super precise because they give that perfect smudged (not messy) look.
Smooth Formula
The lip shape liners are smooth and creamy so they glide easily across the lips without skipping. However they aren’t TOO soft that they move around and disappear after a few hours.
Blurred Finish
I’ve truly never tried something like this before so I didn’t even realize what I was missing! The blurred finish of these lip liners is so flattering without looking messy. I also can use them a bit outside my natural lip line without looking like I’ve overlined my lips. The soft focus formula creates a contour that looks natural and subtle.

Price Point
While these are not the most expensive lip liners out there, they are not the cheapest either. They are $24 for .026 oz.
Unfamiliarity
Because this lip liner shape and concept is still very new to the market, many customers may overlook these and opt for a traditional lip pencil.
Availability
Rhode just launched in Sephora within the past month which makes the brand more accessible to customers who want to try the product before purchasing but that is the only retail store that carries them. Every purchase I’ve made from Rhode has been straight from their website but many want to see/feel the product first before buying. I have loved nearly every Rhode product I’ve tried. But because their availability is still so limited, it can hinder some people’s willingness to try without testing. Rhode Peptide Lip Shape Review
The Rhode Peptide Lip Shape has single handedly changed my opinion on lip liners. From the first time I tried it, I was blown away by the smooth formula and blurred finish it gave the lips. It truly gives that subtle contoured look that enhances my lip volume without looking drawn on or too harsh. I loved the larger shape of the liner itself because it allows me to be less precise when applying which is one of the main reasons I never used lip liner in the past. I think these would work for all ages. But I especially think if you have mature skin like myself or lines around the lips, these are a must try!!
Rhode Peptide Lip Shape Swatches
While there is a good mix of cool and warm tone shades in this collection, I definitely think these liners skew more neutral and slightly cool which I prefer. My absolute favorite holy grail shade that made me fall in love with this formula in the first place is the shade “Lift“. If you have a fair skin tone like myself, this is the perfect “my lip color but better” shade I’ve ever tried!
