Tank – Joe Fresh (old but similar here and here) | Shorts – Loft (also love these and these) | Shoes – Loeffler Randall (similar here) | Bag – Gucci | Earrings – Lisi Lerch | Sunglasses – Amazon (only $10!) | Watch – Cluse
How ridiculously cute are these heart eye sunglasses? I wasn’t sure how much I would wear them but I have actually be wearing them non-stop (and they are only $10!). These shorts have so much going on that I love pairing them with nothing but all black pieces to balance all the color. Though I would also wear them with a white tee/wedges or a camisole in navy or green (this style is my favorite and is currently on sale!) to pull out some of the colors in the shorts. So many options!
As you can see from the below list, I have been a reading machine these past few weeks. There are some amazing books in this list and one that is one of the best I’ve read all year. I am even contemplating reading it again simply because I miss it now that it is finished. Is that weird? Do you ever fall so in love with a book that you miss the characters when you are not reading it? No, just me? Ok, guess I should have kept that weird tidbit to myself. But even if you don’t want to jump into every book and become besties with the characters, this is still a great list worth diving into. All were hits except one.
1. Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine – Quirky, funny and witty as heck! I loved this book. The character Eleanor Oliphant is a peculiar gal who lives alone and suffered a very traumatic childhood. She works a regular office job and lives a routine life. Until an office mate befriends her and pulls her out of her shell. I adore Eleanor’s odd, dry and literal sense of humor and personality and this story really warmed my heart.
2. Unbroken – A WWII war story based on the true story of olympian Louis Zamperini and his fight and courage to get through some life altering experiences. After he enlists in the military, he and his flight crew are shot down by an enemy plane and they must survive on a life raft for weeks only to be captured and sent to a POW camp for years after. This book is hard to read and I had to stop many times simply because the things he had to endure were unimaginable. But Louis’ spirit will teach you the power of a strong mind and unwavering faith. Though it was tough to listen to at points, I loved every chapter of this book.
3. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo – Out of the 5 books I finished this month, this was my favorite. In fact, this may be my favorite book all year (and that is a big statement since I have read a lot). Evelyn Hugo is a huge movie star that has lead a glamorous life, yet is most known for her provocative love life. Now in her 80’s she decides to tell her life story to a young writer and wants to share every single detail. But the details will shock people and show a very different picture of what her life was actually like. This book brought me to tears more times that I could count and at the end I could barely breathe I was crying so hard. There are so many poignant moments in this story that took my breath away. I found myself relistening (I listen to audiobooks) to certain passages over and over because the writer’s words are so profound. I cannot recommend this book enough.
4. The Wicked City – I had high hopes for this period piece after loving A Hundred Summers, but the book completely fell flat for me. It tells the story of two women both of whom lived in the same apartment complex in NYC almost a century apart. To be honest, I understood the connection between them but felt the author did a horrible job of linking the stories. Not worth it at all.
5. The Last Mrs. Parrish – Daphne Parrish is the wife of business mogul Jackson Parrish and they seem to live the perfect life. When she meets Amber Patterson at the gym, she befriends the young woman that comes from a more humble beginning. Amber is jealous of Daphne’s life though hides it in order to get close to her husband, Jackson. The book seems predictable at times, but the twists and turns it takes are very interesting and it kept me entertained from the beginning to the end. Highly recommend!
