I’m a die hard skincare lover but surprisingly had never tried anything from the cult classic brand, Medik8. It has been recommended to me by my readers for yearsssss and I’ve seen so many great reviews on their products. I have been testing four of their top sellers for the past 4-5 months and thought I would do a comprehensive review on my experience with all of them. I do plan on testing more products from Medik8 so any that I do, I will add them to this post so all the reviews for the brand are in one place.
Medik8 Skincare Review
Some quick background information on the Medik8 brand and what made me want to try them. The brand focuses strongly on core ingredients such as vitamin A (often known as retinol) and vitamin c and offers progressive strengths for customers to have options for meeting their skincare goals. Though they offer a ton of products to meet a variety of skincare needs, their main philosophy is to encourage people to keep their routine simple with effective products. Much of their line focuses on targeting popular skin concerns such as uneven skin tone, rough texture, wrinkles, fine lines and dark spots. Many of the products have different strengths and concentrations for those want options in achieving their best skin. There is also a ton of great information on their site on how to build a routine and layer products to produce the results you are looking for.
Medik8 Crystal Retinal 3
This was the product that was most recommended to me to try from Medik8. Their crystal retinal formula uses retinaldehyde which works faster than traditional (over the counter) retinol. There are various strengths depending on what your skin can tolerate and you can work up to the stronger levels over time or stick with what works for you. If you really want to target anti-aging concerns such as wrinkles, uneven skin tone and firmness, retinol products are a must have for your skincare routine. I started with using this once a week and worked my way up to every other night.
It takes at least 4 weeks to begin to see results but I could really notice a difference in the overall apperance of my skin. It looked more even, firmer and glowy. Often with strong retinol products, there could be some purging at first which I did experience. I broke out sporadically in the first month but after those initial 4 weeks, my skin began to clear up. A few tips when using the crystal retinal formula:
- Apply a pea sized amount for the entire face (less is more)
- Do not apply to damp skin.
- I apply it after I cleanse and tone but before any serums or moisturizers. If you find that it makes your skin too dry or irritated, apply a hydrating serum first before the crystal retinal to act as a barrier for your skin. Once your skin gets used to the crystal retinal, you can go back to applying it without any barrier.
- Always wear sunscreen during the day.
- Moisturize well after. I usually apply the Liquid Peptides after and finish with the Advanced Night Ceramide cream.
Medik8 C-Tetra
I use a vitamin c serum every single morning in my skincare routine. While this is described as a serum, it actually feels more like a lightweight oil. I love the silky texture but only need a 1-3 drops to cover my entire face. If I use much more than that, I do notice that my skin will get oily throughout the day. However, the silky oil-like formula is wonderful for my normal to dry skin and it makes my skin look so fresh and bright. It contains a stabilized form of vitamin c so it’s great for all skin types but especially those that have a sensitivity to vitamin c. And the addition of vitamin E in this formula really helps to nourish the skin.
If you are comfortable regularly using vitamin c and don’t have any sensitivity to it, they do much a C-Tetra Luxe serum with twice more vitamin c. Once I finish this, I definitely want to try the Luxe serum next!
Medik8 Liquid Peptides
If there is one thing that I never leave out of my morning or evening skincare routine, it is a hydrating serum. Many hydrating serums focus on simply providing moisture, but the Medik8 Liquid Peptides hydrates the skin as well as visibly plump. From the first time I used this serum, I could instantly notice a difference! My skin immediately looked firmer, more supple and fine lines were noticeably smoothed. After 4 weeks of using it every day, my skin looks so plump and actually feels thicker (not sure if it is but it feels that way LOL). If this is your first time trying the Medik8 line, this serum is a must have! It would easily work into any skincare routine and really targets fine lines and wrinkles better than most of my other hydrating serums. A definite repurchase for me.
Medik8 Advanced Night Ceramide
This night cream is like a gorgeous fluffy pillow for your skin. LOL It is incredibly rich and nourishing so you only need a small amount but it manages to absorb nicely and leaves my skin feeling soft and satiny. It contains skin-replenishing lipids so it does an amazing job at repair and strengthening the skin barrier. It is recommended to use after retinol products because of how well it nourishes the skin and will replenish your skin barrier overnight. I have been using it any night that I am using a strong active (retinol, AHAs, etc) and love how it makes my skin feel and look. The next morning my face looks firm, supple and well balanced which always ends up giving me a natural glow. This will also definitely be a repurchase for me.
