This past year I have made a concentrated effort to try more Korean beauty because I have heard so many amazing things. The whole Korean beauty industry can be daunting and overwhelming but I started first by writing down specific products people recommended. Then I began to see the same products recommended over and over so I started with those since they seemed to be popular for a reason. One of those products was the Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream SPF 42 PA 50ml. I’ve tried BB creams in the past and at one point they were super popular and every brand was making their own version. The popularity surrounding them has lessened but the Missha BB Cream still stands alone as a top seller in this category. A bb cream stands for “blemish balm” or “beauty balm” and is a makeup product designed to help moisturize, protect and correct your skin – basically a product that combines skincare and makeup. As someone who loves skincare AND makeup, these kind of products are my favorites to use. I’ve known about the Missha BB Cream for years and not sure why I never actually tried it but I’m sad that I wasted all those years without using this magical product. LOL This post is going to go into depth about what the Missha BB Cream is, how I use it, who I think it would be good for and all the pros/cons about the formula.
What is Missha BB Cream?
The Missha BB Cream is a product that combines skincare and makeup in one easy step. It’s a bb cream that offers medium to full coverage, sun protection and long lasting moisture. It’s more than a tinted sunscreen because of the amazing coverage. But it feels more nourishing than my traditional foundations. It’s truly a unique product that offers so many great benefits.
Missha BB Cream Ingredients
- Hyaluronic Acid and Ceramides – this will keep the skin moisturized and supple
- Rosemary Leaf Extract and Chamomile Flower Extract – this helps soothe the skin
- Zinc Oxide – to provide UV protection
What Are the Benefits of the Missha BB Cream?
This is one of the best makeup products I have ever used on my skin. From the longevity, to the coverage, to the finish and how it makes my skin look – I recommend this to so many people.
Coverage
Though this is a skincare/makeup hybrid product, don’t let that fool you in terms of coverage. This offers medium to high coverage. If you want less, just apply a small amount and blend it out. It blends beautifully and will cover any uneven skin tone or discoloration you need it to cover.
Price Point
It is sold on various sites and the price does range depending on the retailer from around $8-$18. There are some reputable Korean beauty sites that sell it for under $10 that I have purchased from and recommend. I have also purchased from Amazon and had no issue (though I made sure I was purchasing from the Missha storefront on Amazon to confirm it was authentic). It is also sold at Target. I will list all the reputable places to purchase at the end of this post.
Shade Range
Unfortunately this is the one downside to the product. The shade range is VERY limited and not that great. I usually wear both Shade 21 and Shade 23 depending on if I have used self tanner and also mix those two shades together sometimes. I’m disappointed they have not extended it further at this point because it has become so popular so hopefully that happens in the future.
Longevity
This DOES NOT MOVE once it is on my face. It is one of the longest wearing foundations I own!
Finish
This lightweight bb cream has a gorgeous satin finish that mimics the look of real skin. It isn’t too dewy or too matte – it’s the perfect skin-like finish.
Skin Type
Because this is such a moisturizing formula, it may be too emollient for those with oily skin. I definitely think those with combination skin would like it since it won’t cling to any dry patches and doesn’t get shiny throughout the day. For anyone with mature skin or dry skin, this is an absolute dream. It makes my skin look so fresh and healthy – it’s beautiful!
How to Apply Missha BB Cream
Prep the Skin
Though this bb cream is very creamy and nourishing, it works best when you skin is moisturized and prepped. I will often add a layer of the Rhode Glazing Milk right before I apply my foundations because it gives my skin a quick boost of moisture that allows my foundations to glide on effortlessly.
Start Small
Because this is such a medium to full coverage foundation, I recommend using a light hand to apply. You can always build it up if needed.
Use a Damp Sponge for Less Coverage
If you want less coverage, use a damp makeup sponge to apply the product all over.
Use a Makeup Brush for More Coverage
If you want to build up coverage or prefer a more full coverage application, choose a stiff kabuki style brush to buff in the product.
Set With Powder If Needed
Though this foundation is very long wearing, you can still set it with a setting powder and help extend the wear even more. Especially if you are oily or combination, use a setting powder through your t-zone to help mattify and set.
How to Choose Your Shade in Missha BB Cream Color
I have to admit that this is a challenge because this is not a foundation found in most stores so you will have to order online which can be tricky. Here are a few tips that hopefully will help you find your correct shade.
Determine Your Undertone
Either look at your current foundations to get an idea of your current undertone or visit a local makeup counter/makeup store to help confirm your undertone. Undertones are usually cool, warm or neutral.
Visit the Missha Site
There are pretty accurate swatches on the Missha site that could help you determine what may be closest to your skin tone.
Order from a site that allows for returns
This isn’t the best scenario but it’s what I do when I need to order a foundation shade that I am not quite sure will match my skin. I will order the shades that I am debating between and then return what did not work. In some instances, I will mix two shades if necessary.
Swatch the shades along your jawline
When you are swatching foundation to try and find your correct shade, be sure to swatch them along your jawline so that you can find one that matches both your face and neck.
Missha BB Cream Shades
I pulled the above images from the Missha site because they are quite clear and easy to see. There are only 7 shades available in the Missha BB Cream. Below is a description on each shade:

- #21 Light Beige – Light with Cool Undertone
