As I get older, my approach to makeup has had to change. The products that used to work on me don’t look the same anymore. Mature skin definitely handles makeup differently and the less is more approach is mantra at this point. Heavy or fuller coverage foundations don’t work on my skin as well as they did years ago. I gravitate towards thinner formulas, skincare based skin tints and complexion products that give just a hint of coverage. I rarely use any traditional foundations anymore but I had a feeling the new Natasha Denona HyGlam foundation could be an exception. I already swear by the Natasha Denona HyGlam concealer especially for mature skin so there was a good probability that the foundation would be as beautiful. Spoiler alert: it definitely was. If you are in the market for a “special occasion” makeup that gives a bit more coverage and wear time compared to a tinted moisturizer or lightweight skin tint, this foundation could be perfect. Especially for mature skin!

Natasha Denona HyGlam Foundation Review

The Natasha Denona HyGlam foundation is formulated as a soft blurring, hydrating and luminous longwear serum foundation. It checks off all the boxes for me though I wasn’t sure it would actually deliver on those claims. After playing around with it for a bit and figuring out how best to apply it for my skin type, I fell in LOVE with this formula. It’s truly magic on the skin especially for mature skin. It manages to be blurring in a natural way, hydrating without being too shiny and lasts ALL DAY LONG! While I do wear it everyday, this is definitely the kind of foundation that is great for special occasions or a celebratory night out. It’s a formula that will make your skin look amazing for as long as it needs to be on. I’ll share some of my tips on how best to apply it in order to get different desired outcomes.

What Are the Pros of the Natasha Denona HyGlam Foundation?

Coverage

A true medium coverage foundation that can easily be sheered out for less coverage if you prefer. You can build it up slightly but it will not provide complete full coverage.

Finish

The brand’s description of the foundation is spot on. It blurs while still leaving the skin looking fresh and luminous. It stays looking natural throughout the day and doesn’t get increasingly shiny or dewy. It really does give a smoothing filter like finish to the skin.

Longevity

As with the HyGlam concealer, this foundation is incredibly long wearing. It does not separate or get patchy throughout the day. It stays put until I take it off and looks exactly the same if not better by the end of the day. That’s why I recommend it for special occasions where you need your makeup to last as long as possible!

Skin Type

I’m happy to say that I think this foundation would work for nearly all skin types. Those with oily skin will like the subtle radiant finish while those with dry or mature skin will love how hydrating it manages to be throughout the day. If you have textured skin, I also think this would be a wonderful option because of the smoothing and blurring formula.

What Are the Cons of the Natasha Denona HyGlam Foundation?

Price Point

Natasha Denona Beauty is positioned as a higher end brand so the price point for her products is always more steep. This foundation is $52 for 30ml but I use such a small amount each time that the price per use would be quite low so I anticipate this bottle lasting me a long time.

Choosing a Shade

The shade range for this foundation is FANTASTIC but it could be challenging to decide on one if you are not near a Sephora that carries Natasha Denona beauty. Her shade options are very extensive with options for so many different undertones. There are tools on her website that can help you decide which shade you need if you can’t get shade matched in store.

How to Apply the Natasha Denona HyGlam Foundation?

Prep the Skin

Even though this is a hydrating foundation, it’s still important to properly prep the skin beforehand. Usually my morning skincare routine is sufficient prep for any makeup application but if my skin is feeling really dry that morning, I will add a layer of the Rhode Glazing Milk right before applying my foundation.

Start Small

Because this is a medium coverage foundation, I recommend using a light hand to apply. You can always build it up if needed. This foundation is VERY pigmented so a tiny dot can be spread over a large surface area. I learned this the hard way when first testing the foundation and had to use much less product the next time.

Use a Damp Sponge for Less Coverage

If you want less coverage, use a damp makeup sponge to apply the product all over. This is how I prefer to apply this foundation because the added moisture from the sponge helps to further sheer out the foundation.

Use a Makeup Brush for More Coverage

If you want to build up coverage or prefer a more fuller coverage application, choose a stiff kabuki style brush to buff in the product. This is my favorite foundation brush at the moment to use – it blends in product effortlessly (my discount code is MAREE10).

Set With Powder If Needed

Though this foundation is very long wearing, you can still set it with a setting powder and help extend the wear even more. Especially if you are oily or combination, use a setting powder through your t-zone to help mattify and set.

Natasha Denona HyGlam Foundation Swatches

The shade range is extensive with so many undertone options! There is a total of 52 shades to choose from. I personally wear shade N1 and find it to be the perfect match. I also wear the same shade in the concealer which made it easy for me to choose but you can always use her shade matching tool on her website.
