Blazers are one of the main pillars of a great wardrobe. They can be worn a ton of different ways, whether for work or play, never go out of style and can elevate even the simplest of looks. They are the perfect layering piece to add over a variety of tops or dresses. You can be wearing pajamas underneath (not literally but sorta LOL) and when you throw a blazer on, it instantly provides the proper amount of professionalism to your outfit. Blazers can be worn with nearly any outfit you can imagine and there are a ton of different fits, prints, textures and fabrics to choose from to add something a bit more unique to your look. I’m rounding up a list of items that work perfectly under a blazer as well as some outfit ideas on how to style a blazer.
What To Wear Under a Blazer
There are a ton of things that you can wear under a blazer but the four main ones that I find the easiest to style are a camisole, a striped tee, a turtleneck and a button down blouse. Most people have some version of each of these in their closet and easily provide a ton of different ways to style your blazer.
Camisole
This is always my go-to when styling a blazer. A lace trim or simple silk camisole always looks great under a blazer. It can work for both daytime and evening depending on the rest of the outfit. I also love a tank top with a blazer but a camisole is a bit more elevated.
Striped tee
The tee can be long sleeves or short sleeves but a striped tee is a great styling option for a blazer. Obviously a white t-shirt seems like an automatic go-to, but I actually love a striped one more. Specifically a black blazer but it could work for a variety of solid color blazers. The t-shirt aspect adds a casual element to the look so it works perfectly with jeans.
Turtleneck
I love the classic combination of a turtleneck and blazer in the winter. You can choose a patterned turtleneck but I love a simple black turtleneck with a black blazer. The look is timeless.
Button down shirts
Out of all four options, a button down blouse will always be the most professional option. I personally prefer a silky and drapey button down blouse under a blazer because it tends to lay better and be more comfortable for me.

Plaid Blazer with Loafers
Switch out the blue or black jeans for trousers or a pencil skirt and this outfit is the perfect workwear look. Or if you have a more business casual office, it can look great styled with dark non-distressed denim.

Plaid Blazer with Distressed Jeans
I will forever love mixing something more polished with some more edgy or undone so wearing a plaid blazer with distressed jeans is a regular combo for me.

Blazer with Dress Shorts
It may seem a bit strange to pair a blazer with shorts but I love the look. Choose a pair of shorts with a longer length which will help balance out and elevate the look. Even if you opt for denim shorts (I will share an outfit idea later in this post), go for a pair that is longer and closer to mid thigh.

Blazer with a Striped Tee
A striped tee is an absolute must have in everyone’s closet because it is so versatile. I love wearing mine under something solid like a blue blazer or black blazer because it adds a bit of a print to the outfit. Choose any neckline style that you prefer though I always love to have a basic high crew neck style in my collection.

Colorful Blazer Outfit
You don’t always have to choose a neutral color for a blazer. Bright tones can be a fun way to bring color to your outfit without having to invest in anything else colorful. Let the blazer be the focus of the look and choose something simple like a white camisole and jeans to finish the look.

Blazer with a Printed Blouse
If all of your blazers are solid neutral colors but you want to add something a bit more to your look, choose a printed blouse. Again my preference is something more drapey and silky because I love the way it wears under the stiffness of a blazer.

Blazer with Leather Leggings
As with the distressed jeans outfit, I love mixing something a bit more polished and conservative with something more edgy. A blazer is definitely a more professional piece but wearing a longer blazer over some faux leather leggings is a chic way to dress it up for evening.

Blazer with a Mini Dress
When choosing a blazer to wear with a shorter dress, my best recommendation is to choose a slightly oversized and longer style blazer. That will help balance out the length of the mini dress perfectly.
Blazer with a Hoodie
Not everyone loves a blazer/hoodie moment, but I think it’s an unexpected combo that can look really cool. Especially for those that work in a creative field or fashion forward office, this pairing looks super chic and unique.

Blazer with Sandals
I’m a sweater with sandals lover so I will always love a blazer worn with strappy sandals during the warmer months.

Blazer with Knee High Boots
I love wearing knee high boots with nearly everything but there is something about a statement blazer and some chic knee high boots that looks so good.

Blazer with a Graphic Tee
Though this outfit idea is about the graphic tee, I want to take a moment to point out that if you are choosing shorts with a blazer pick a slightly longer option. Something that comes mid thigh at the least is the best gauge to use. Blazers with graphic tees are a favorite combination for so many people, me included. Bringing pieces together that are seemingly at the opposite of the spectrum may seem like a combo that won’t work, but often it does.

Blazer with a Scarf
One of the best accessories to style with a blazer is an oversized scarf. I pull the two ends together and tie it around my neck to create this dramatic drape that looks so chic worn with a blazer.

Blazer with Satin Pants
A look like this screams chic beach vacation or summer wedding guest. The satin pants dress up the look completely while the blazer adds a bit of polish. The right accessories can definitely make this more formal or more casual but the base (blazer+satin pants) is a super versatile look that can be worn to so many different occasions.
Which look is your favorite that I shared?!
