Oversized blazers are having a major moment right now and are more popular than ever. I am a huge blazer lover and love all kinds of different shapes. Very tailored, oversized, different textures and fabrics – it’s necessary to have a bit of selection in your closet.Oversized blazers are often roomier overall, can have exaggerated shoulders and be a bit longer in length. But don’t think you have to get an overly baggy or roomy blazer to participate in this trend. Sometimes just sizing up or opting for a style that is a bit more roomy is suitable to get that “oversized” vibe that is so popular right now. I have a few variations of oversized blazers that I love but prefer them to still be somewhat tailored so as not to overwhelm my frame.
Styling an oversized blazer is much easier than you may think and I usually just wear them as I would a regular slim tailored blazer. Here are a few ways I have styled my oversized blazers for different occassions and seasons.
10 Oversized Blazer Outfits
Oversized Blazer and Wide Leg Jeans

When styling an oversized blazer with wide leg jeans, I will often choose a style that isn’t too baggy or loose because the jeans are already a wider style. A key for me is actually pushing up the sleeves to be 3/4 length which helps to make the blazer not look as oversized. For what to wear under a blazer like this, I prefer to keep things simple with a simple tee underneath to let the blazer stand out in the outfit.
Oversized Blazer with a Belt

If you feel like your oversized blazers are shapeless, one of the best ways to style them is to belt them! I love this wrap belt that I have because it is super adjustable and I can tighten it as I need. Depending on how oversized your blazer is, you could safety pin the upper portion, add a belt and wear it as a top.
Oversized Blazer with Skinny Jeans

An oversized blazer always looks great styled with something slim on the bottom since it creates a more dramatic silhouette. Keep the rest of the outfit simple is always the best way to balance out the look.
Oversized Blazer with Shorts

When the weather is warmer, wearing an oversized blazer with shorts is a great option. For this kind of look, I would make sure to choose a dressier pair of shorts and have them be closer to a bermuda style length instead of anything too short. This will balance out the proportion of the looser fitting or slightly longer blazer.
Oversized Blazer with Knee High Boots

I will always love a look like this and find it very easy to recreate year after year. This look especially creates a long line and silhouette because the blazer is longer which draws the eye down but the boots are tall which draws the eye up. The result is a cohesive balance that looks so chic!
Oversized Blazer with Faux Leather Leggings

Faux leather leggings are still a staple for me in the fall and winter because they are a lot dressier than regular cotton or athletic leggings. The look is very similar in style to wearing an oversized sweatshirt or sweater with black leggings which is why it always works. Choose a blazer that is a bit longer and covers your butt which elevates the look much more. If the blazer is oversized but too short, it will look disproportionate and not as polished. Opt for heels instead of boots to elongate the legs and balance out the look. Showing that small bit of foot makes a difference in the overall proportion of the outfit.
Oversized Blazer and a Sweater Dress

This is definitely the trendiest look out of the entire roundup but is a fun way to wear a really exaggerated oversized blazer style. Choose a fitted sweater dress that is just a tad bit longer than the blazer and wear either knee high or mid calf boots to balance it out. Ankle boots or heels will not work as well but you can play around with a slouchy style boot like this to add some variation the look.
How Should an Oversized Blazer Fit?
This really depends on your preference but the larger a blazer is, the trendier it will look. So if you want to opt for something classic that you can rewear year after year, choose something that is a tad bit longer than your regular blazers for a slightly oversized look. Instead of a tailored fit, opt for something a bit roomier and looser which will give you the result without being too dramatic. If you have a blazer that you already love, buy it in a second color at one size larger. This will allow you to keep the overall silhouette you like, but the larger size will give it a more oversized feel.
