Retinol is one of the key ingredients in my skincare routine and has been for many years. It has so many great benefits and my skin always looks consistently great when I have it in my routine. If you are new to using retinol, it’s definitely an ingredient that should be introduced slowly and then built up if your skin can tolerate it. Retinol helps accelerate skin cell turnover which slows down significantly as we age. Retinol speeds up this process which results in fewer fine lines, plumper skin and an overall fresher appearance. There are various forms of retinol and different formulations on the market but for me I want a retinol product that is effective at speeding up cellular turnover but without any issues of irritation, redness or flakiness.
Mother Science recently launched their newest product Retinol Synergist and it checks every single one of these boxes for me. This is the second product from Mother Science and I was so excited to try it after falling in love with their Molecular Hero Serum. I swear by the Molecular Hero Serum for helping fade my dark spots and even out my complexion better than any serum I’ve tried in a long time. I had high hopes for the Retinol Synergist serum and am so happy that it lived up to my expectations. In fact, I dedicated an entire blog post to the Molecular Hero Serum so I thought I would do the same for the Retinol Synergist Serum. And I have a discount code as well that gives 15% off any Mother Science product! Use code: MAREESYE at checkout to get the discount.
Mother Science Retinol Synergist Review
While the Molecular Hero Serum is designed to target dark spots and uneven skin tone, the Retinol Synergist serum is formulated to address fine lines and wrinkles as well as support the skin barrier. The additional benefit of supporting the skin barrier is one of the reasons I was so excited to try this serum because retinol products can often be quite harsh on the skin. So to find one that also provides skin barrier support is rare and what made me love this product even more.
Ingredients
In addition to retinol which targets fine lines and wrinkles, the Retinol Synergist serum contains Malassezin which reduces free radical damage, supports and calms the skin barrier. Lipid concentrate enhances moisturization and plumps skin and trehalose soothes the skin and retains moisture.
Price Point
The price point is $96 for 1 oz. For reference that the Molecular Hero Serum is the same size (1 oz) and lasted me approximately 4-5 months using it 3-4x/week. And my discount code (MAREESYE) will get you 15% off!
Packaging
I love the solid silver packaging and the bottle itself feels quite weighty. There is a pump dispenser which pumps out just enough product to cover the entire face.
Skin Types
As I mentioned before, retinol products can cause irritation, flakiness or redness but I had no issues with this. However if you have sensitive skin or are sensitive to retinol, I always recommend doing a small patch test on the face to ensure your skin can tolerate the formulation.
Benefits
Retinol Synergist helps to minimize fine lines and wrinkles, smooths texture and firms the skin. It will also help to reduce the appearance of pore size.
How to Use Mother Science Retinol Synergist Serum?
Use at night
It is recommended to use the Retinol Synergist serum in the evening. Only a pea sized amount is needed to cover the entire face.
Use SPF during the day
Be sure you are using an SPF during the day especially when using retinol products.
Follow with a moisturizer
I like to use a rich and nourishing moisturizer as my final skincare step on the nights I am using the Retinol Synergist Serum.
Use 2-3x/week
It’s recommended to use 2-3x/week which is the frequency that works for me. However everyone is different so it’s best to start slow and work your way up to your desired usage.
If you are in the market for a new retinol, I highly recommend giving this one a try. My love for the entire Mother Science brand continues with this new launch!
