How to Look Put TogetherI’ve always been into fashion and have always loved getting dressed. I would experiment with different trends here and there but one consistent thing I always strive for with my outfits is to look put together. Many people focus on specific aspects of style such as “how to style wide leg jeans” or “what sneakers to wear with dresses” but often overlook some very simple steps to take with their everyday style which can make all the difference. Even when I’m dressed casually, I love putting in the effort to look polished. Feeling put together and looking put together also has a huge impact on my mental state for the day. I feel more confident and more secure when I put in the effort.

This effort doesn’t have to be huge or even cost a ton of money. But there are a few things you can do each day to look more put together. And after doing these things for a period of time, it will become like second nature to you and every outfit you wear will have reflect this. In today’s post, I am sharing a practical and effective guide on how to look more put together. Tangible things you can do that will make a difference in how you present yourself every day.

How to Look Put Together

I want to start this off by stating that I think many people associate “looking put together” with “looking wealthy” and vice versa. And I don’t want to minimize the impact of wealth on the ability to care for yourself more or to allow for more services to aid in this. However, most of these suggestions that I will share today will not reference a specific item that you need to own or services that you need to pay for but rather simple attainable things that you can actively do each day to help yourself look more put together. Being put together doesn’t have to only apply to a certain style either. Your style can be classic, boho, trendy, eclectic, etc and most of these things still apply.

What Does It Mean to Be Put Together?

When I think of the idea of looking “put together”, there is definitely a reference to an outward appearance aspect. Honestly, many days I may be not feeling my best emotionally, but when I feel great about my outfit it can help give me the added support to push through. For me looking put together can mean that I put effort into my appearance. Making definitive decisions on certain aspects of my look that help me appear more polished and confident.

How to Always Look Put Together

Do Your Hair and/or Makeup

Making sure your hair and/or makeup is done is one of the easiest ways to look put together. You don’t even have to opt for both every day but definitely choose one. If you want to do your makeup, then pull your hair back in a low ponytail or add a cute headband to not have to fully style it. If you want to do your hair, make sure your face is cleansed and moisturized. Also wearing makeup does not necessarily mean a full face. Wear what makes you feel comfortable. That could be just a tinted sunscreen, mascara and your favorite tinted lip balm. For me, it does often mean a full face because makeup is one of my favorite things to do. LOL It actually relaxes me and is a daily ritual that I’ve been doing for nearly 20 years.

Wear a Hat

I am a hat person and have been for many years. I love how they can accessorize an outfit but still hide my hair if I don’t feel like doing it that day. Ha! Even something as simple as a baseball cap can help you look put together instead of having to do your hair. On the weekends, I rarely do my hair or makeup. But I will almost always put on a cute baseball cap with my outfit to help pull the look together. Or in the winter, I will put on a beanie with my weekend look. I would actually rather wear a hat than throw my hair up in a bun or ponytail because my hair is so fine it never looks as good as it does covered with a hat. So that has always been an easy go-to for me.

Wear a Monochromatic Outfit or Matching Set

A monochromatic look or even a matching set is always an easy and fast way to look put together. Whether it’s a casual look or something more dressy, dressing in one color can create an instant polished outfit. For me, this is my exact approach to how I dress on the weekends. I don’t want to think about putting an outfit together and comfort is my main priority, yet I do still want to look put together. This is why I reach for matching sets because it takes zero effort to coordinate and instantly makes me feel better.

Choose Neutrals

While I will experiment from time to time with pops of color and prints, having a closet full of neutrals is still one of the easiest ways to look put together. I can easily mix and match pieces to create various outfits that all look well coordinated and polished. I definitely think you can look put together in bright colors. But it’s good to have a neutral base to pair with those pieces. Especially if you struggle with styling outfits or deciding what to wear each day – opting for neutrals can alleviate that stress because everything already matches and pairs well together.

Accessorize Your Look

If you look at my outfits a few years ago, I wasn’t as into wearing accessories as much as I am now and I truly feel it has made such a difference. Adding jewelry or a belt gives the outfit much more depth and can give the impression that the look is well thought out. This is why I love having a neutral base of clothing in my closet because the accessory options are endless and can change my look with little to no effort. Jewelry or accessories don’t have to be bold statement pieces to still add flair and interest to any outfit. But those finishing touches can make all the difference. And don’t be afraid to accessorize casual outfits too. I love wearing jewelry with my sweats on the weekend. It can elevate a super casual look without any additional effort.

Steam or Iron Your Clothing

For me, it will always be steaming. I HATE ironing and will only do it if I absolutely have to. But buying a steamer has nearly eliminated my need to ever iron anything. Even my athleisure outfits or super casual looks, I will still give a quick steam to take out any noticeable wrinkles. I still want my outfits to appear lived in so I don’t need to have everything perfect but steaming your clothes before wearing them does present the piece much better than if it is wrinkled or creased. I actually leave my steamer in the closet so I just need to fill it up and plug it in which makes me more apt to use it regularly. It takes me less than 60 seconds to steam a single item of clothing so the level of effort is minimal but the impact is significant.
