Best Setting Powders For Mature SkinThough I’ve been a makeup lover and wearer for more than 20 years, face powder have never been a huge presence in my everyday makeup routine. I have powders that I use and wear but nothing ever wowed me enough to truly become a staple everyday. Most powders would make me look too flat, too dry and I ultimately would stop reaching for them over time. Over the past year or two, the formulation of pressed and some loose powders has drastically improved to the point that I now wear one every single day.

There are two pressed powders that have become an absolute must have in my routine because of their ability to blur and soften the skin in the most amazing way. I also have a loose powder that I reach for from time to time that I am including in this list as well because I do really enjoy it. But these two pressed powders are my absolute must haves. And as someone who is now in her mid-40’s, I am particular about how powder looks on my skin now more than ever. These are definitely worth trying and really defy everything I had assumed about powders for so long.

Best Setting Powders for Mature Skin

Hourglass and Kosas Setting Powders on face

Hourglass Vanish Airbrush Pressed Powder

I’ve noticed that powders have progressively gotten better over the years. And brands are making an effort to make them more invisible and less powder-y. Obviously that seems like an oxymoron but there is definitely a love/hate relationship with powder makeup products. You want the option to take away shine without making your face look too flat or too dull. Hourglass has managed to make the impossible possible with the Vanish Airbrush Pressed Powder. It blurs, mattifies and smooths all in one.

It’s a blurring, soft matte formula that makes my skin look velvety without being too dry. Hourglass just added on to their setting powder collection with the new Vanish Airbrush Setting Pressed Powder. It’s a talc-free pressed powder designed to reduce shine and give an airbrushed finish to the skin. I can confirm that is exactly what I found it to do. Especially as someone who is in my mid-40’s and has skin that doesn’t always look great with too much powder on it, I strive to find products that can help prevent or remove unwanted shine without adding too much texture or making my skin look too dry.

I typically use this throughout my t-zone to mattify and blur that portion of the face. Sometimes I will use it under my eyes. But I have found one that I like even more for under the eyes. My preference in applying is using this velvety soft powder puff and pressing it onto the face exactly where I want to soften and blur.

Kosas Cloud Set Brightening Powder in Candy

I don’t know what magic they put in this powder or how it was formulated but this pressed powder is one of the best powders I have ever tried! It’s a talc free formula that begins as a mousse and once it is baked becomes an ultra-fine sheer powder. Talk about blurring and smoothing – holy cow! It’s absolutely amazing how well this powder sits on the skin and manages to mattify without making the skin look too flat or dull. I bought the pink shade and it is perfect for brightening. It also comes in skin tone shades as well as a buttery yellow and sheer peach shade.

Compared to the Jones Road Setting Powder in Pink, this pink is a touch brighter and smoother in the finish. The pink is a touch lighter and the formula is a tad bit more finely milled. As with the other two powders, I use my powder puff to apply and pressed this under my eyes and lightly in my t-zone.

Jones Road Tinted Face Setting Powder

If you prefer a loose setting powder, this is the one I have been reaching for. I have been so impressed by this formula. The powder is very finely milled, and disappears into the skin. It also gives a soft matte finish that isn’t too flat or dry looking. There is a translucent shade that would work on anyone. But there are various shades if you want something to complement your skin tone. The Pink Tinted Face Powder is designed to brighten and I mostly use it under the eyes. Occasionally I will dust it down my t-zone and it really brings my complexion to life helping to offset any dullness or sallowness. It looks so soft and delicate while not turning too pink as the day goes on.

Though I have used a small powder brush with this, my favorite way to apply it is with my holy grail powder puffs that I buy off Amazon. I will pick up a small bit of powder, tap off the excess and press it under my eyes.
